Medical Doctor Jobs in Indianapolis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a medical doctor job in Indianapolis?
Focus your search on Indianapolis's large integrated health systems, academic medical centers anchored to Indiana University Health and the IU School of Medicine, and the federally qualified health centers serving underserved neighborhoods on the east and west sides. Candidates with board certification, fellowship training in high-demand specialties such as hospitalist medicine or family practice, and experience with Epic EHR stand out in this market. Connecting with physician recruiters embedded inside local health systems accelerates hiring significantly.
Which companies hire medical doctors in Indianapolis?
Employers hiring medical doctors in Indianapolis right now include LiveWell Homecare Agency, Indiana University Health, and Optum, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Indianapolis's hiring base is anchored by large nonprofit hospital systems, a major academic medical center complex, multi-specialty physician groups, and community health organizations that collectively drive most physician openings across the metro.
Are there remote medical doctor jobs in Indianapolis?
Yes, though hands-on clinical roles are almost entirely on-site by nature, making remote work rare for most medical doctor positions. About 50% of medical doctor openings tied to Indianapolis are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, concentrated in telehealth, utilization management, and physician advisor roles rather than direct patient care.
How can I get a medical doctor job in Indianapolis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Indianapolis is securing a residency or fellowship at Indiana University Health or Eskenazi Health, which are the primary training pipelines that feed local hiring. New physicians should also target federally qualified health centers and safety-net clinics on the city's east and west sides, which often hire recently trained doctors for primary care roles. Completing clinical rotations at Indianapolis institutions builds the local network that most health systems draw on when filling attending positions.
