- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution

Tips for Your Medical Doctor Job Search
Tailor your CV to each specialty
Physician CVs that list every rotation carry less weight than ones that front-load experience directly relevant to the open role. If you're applying to an emergency medicine position, move your EM rotations, procedures, and board certifications above general clinical experience.
Get board certification details right
Job listings distinguish between board-eligible and board-certified candidates. Check whether the posting requires certification in hand before applying, and if you're eligible but not yet certified, state your exam date clearly on your CV and in your cover letter.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists medical doctor openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match your specialty and experience level and apply directly to each listing.
Target your DEA and state license strategically
Many hospital systems hire across multiple states and want physicians who hold, or can quickly obtain, licensure in their operating states. Review whether a posting is in a compact licensure state or requires a separate application before you commit time to the process.
Prepare for a structured panel interview
Physician interviews commonly include a site tour, meetings with department chiefs, nursing leadership, and administrative staff, and a case-based or scenario question. Prepare concrete examples of how you've handled complex patient management, team disagreements, and quality improvement initiatives.
Negotiate the full compensation package
Physician offers involve malpractice tail coverage, call schedules, CME allowances, and productivity bonuses alongside base pay. Review each element before signing, and ask specifically whether malpractice tail insurance is employer-paid if you leave, since that gap can cost you significantly.
Medical Doctor Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most medical doctors?
The companies hiring the most medical doctors right now include Aspen Dental, Sanford Health, and Signify Health, with the largest share of openings in Texas, California, and Pennsylvania, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand tends to be highest at health systems with large ambulatory and hospitalist programs.
How many medical doctor jobs are remote?
About 5% of medical doctor openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of most clinical roles. Remote opportunities are most concentrated in telehealth, utilization review, insurance medical directorship, and direct primary care platforms that support asynchronous patient communication.
How do you become a medical doctor?
You complete a bachelor's degree with prerequisite science coursework, pass the MCAT, earn an MD or DO from an accredited medical school, then complete a residency program of at least three years in your chosen specialty. After residency, you obtain your state medical license and pass specialty board exams to become board-certified and eligible to practice independently.
How do you get hired as a medical doctor with no attending experience?
Newly graduated residents are competitive candidates for their first attending roles when they apply within their residency specialty and lean into procedural skills, patient panel experience, and quality metrics from training. Fellowship completion strengthens subspecialty applications, and demonstrating familiarity with EMR systems and value-based care metrics addresses common concerns hiring committees raise about new graduates.
What does the medical doctor interview process look like?
Most physician hiring processes include an initial phone or video screen with a recruiter or department chief, followed by an on-site interview day that includes meetings with clinical leadership, a facility tour, and conversations with nursing and administrative staff. A credentialing review and reference check follow any offer, and the full process from first contact to signed contract often takes several weeks to a few months.
Where can I find and apply to medical doctor jobs?
You can find and apply to medical doctor jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from hospitals, health systems, private practices, and multispecialty groups across the United States. Search the listings by specialty or location, find roles that match your training and credentials, and apply directly to each one.
