Medical Doctor Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a medical doctor in Florida?
You become a medical doctor in Florida by completing a medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited school, finishing an accredited residency program, passing the USMLE or COMLEX licensing exams, and obtaining an active Florida medical license through the Florida Board of Medicine. The Board requires verified training, exam scores, and a background check before issuing a license. Physicians who hold an active license in good standing from another state may also apply for licensure by endorsement in Florida.
Which companies hire medical doctors in Florida?
Employers hiring medical doctors in Florida right now include TeamHealth, Baptist Health, and US Department of Veterans Affairs, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's large integrated health systems and its extensive network of federally qualified health centers and VA medical facilities also produce consistent physician openings throughout the state.
Which Florida cities have the most medical doctor jobs?
Jacksonville, Miami, and Orlando have the most medical doctor openings in Florida, reflecting the concentration of major hospital systems, academic medical centers, and specialist group practices in those metros. Smaller markets like Gainesville and Jacksonville also carry steady physician demand, driven by the University of Florida Health network and large regional hospital campuses anchoring local hiring.
Are there remote medical doctor jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they're rare. About 16% of medical doctor openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how hands-on clinical practice is by nature. The roles most likely to offer remote or hybrid arrangements are telemedicine positions, utilization management, and medical review or advisory roles that don't require direct patient contact.
How can I get hired as a medical doctor in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path for a newly licensed physician in Florida is applying directly to residency-to-employment pipeline programs at large systems such as AdventHealth or HCA Florida, which regularly hire graduating residents into hospitalist, primary care, and emergency medicine roles. Community health centers and Federally Qualified Health Centers across Florida also recruit physicians early in their careers. Securing a Florida medical license and board certification before completing your residency gives you a clear hiring edge.
