Certified Surgical Technologist Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a certified surgical technologist in Indiana?
You become a certified surgical technologist in Indiana by completing an accredited surgical technology program through a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited school, then passing the CST exam administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. Indiana does not require a separate state license for surgical technologists, so the CST credential is the primary qualification most Indiana employers require. Community colleges such as Ivy Tech Community College offer accredited programs throughout the state.
How much do certified surgical technologists make in Indiana?
Certified surgical technologists in Indiana earn a median of about $64,240 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $51,350 for the lowest 10% to over $80,600 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire certified surgical technologists in Indiana?
Employers hiring certified surgical technologists in Indiana right now include Ascension, Franciscan Health, and Community Health Network, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Indiana's large integrated health systems and its growing network of ambulatory surgical centers generate consistent openings across specialties including orthopedics, cardiovascular surgery, and general surgery year-round.
Which Indiana cities have the most certified surgical technologist jobs?
Indianapolis, Carmel, and Seymour have the most certified surgical technologist openings in Indiana. Indianapolis dominates because of its concentration of major health systems and Level I trauma centers, while Fort Wayne and Evansville serve as regional anchors with large acute-care hospitals that require fully staffed surgical departments to support their surrounding communities.
Are there remote certified surgical technologist jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they're rare. Certified surgical technologist work is inherently hands-on and performed in sterile operating environments, so the role is not suited to remote work by nature. About 0% of certified surgical technologist openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those are typically in education, clinical training coordination, or surgical technology instruction rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a certified surgical technologist in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing an accredited program at Ivy Tech Community College or a comparable Indiana institution, which includes clinical rotations that many employers count toward experience. Indiana University Health and Ascension St. Vincent both offer new-graduate onboarding tracks that provide structured mentorship in the OR. Candidates transitioning from sterile processing technician or surgical tech extern roles gain a meaningful advantage, and holding an active CST credential at graduation makes hiring managers significantly more willing to bring on someone without independent OR experience.
Where can I find and apply to certified surgical technologist jobs in Indiana?
You can find and apply to certified surgical technologist jobs in Indiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Indiana openings across hospital systems, surgical centers, and specialty practices. Search the listings to find roles that match your specialty background, experience level, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
