Certified Surgical Technologist Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a certified surgical technologist in New York?
To become a certified surgical technologist in New York, you must complete an accredited surgical technology program and pass the CST exam administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. New York does not issue a separate state license for surgical technologists, so the CST credential is the primary qualification employers require. Many New York hospitals also expect candidates to hold current BLS certification before starting in an OR role.
How much do certified surgical technologists make in New York?
Certified surgical technologists in New York earn a median of about $79,550 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,680 for the lowest 10% to over $105,330 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire certified surgical technologists in New York?
Employers hiring certified surgical technologists in New York right now include Trinity Health, New York Society For Relief Of Ruptured & Crippled, and Bassett Healthcare Network, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's large academic medical centers and regional health systems account for the majority of openings, with consistent demand at both full-service hospitals and outpatient ambulatory surgery centers throughout the state.
Which New York cities have the most certified surgical technologist jobs?
Syracuse, New York, and Cooperstown have the most certified surgical technologist openings in New York. New York City leads because of the density of major academic medical centers and specialty surgery programs, while Buffalo and Albany draw demand from regional health systems like Kaleida Health and Albany Medical Center Health System that serve large upstate patient populations across multiple campuses.
Are there remote certified surgical technologist jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Certified surgical technology is an inherently hands-on OR role requiring physical presence in a sterile field, so the vast majority of positions are on-site. About 0% of certified surgical technologist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those are almost exclusively administrative, education, or surgical technology consulting roles rather than clinical scrub positions.
How can I get hired as a certified surgical technologist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to new-grad or externship programs at large New York hospital systems such as Northwell Health and NewYork-Presbyterian, which regularly bring on recent graduates from accredited programs for structured OR orientation. Candidates with experience as surgical technologist assistants, sterile processing technicians, or OR patient care technicians also move into scrub roles with relative ease. Holding your CST credential before applying gives you a clear edge over candidates who are still sitting for the exam.
Where can I find and apply to certified surgical technologist jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to certified surgical technologist jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings updated regularly. Search the listings to find roles that match your specialty and experience level, then apply directly to the positions that fit.
