After licensure, most New York employers expect board certification through the American Board of Dermatology. Applications for New York medical licensure are submitted through the New York State Education Department.
How much do dermatologists make in New York?
Dermatologists in New York earn a median of about $374,010 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $106,320 for the lowest 10% to over $488,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire dermatologists in New York?

New York's concentration of large academic health systems and growing private dermatology group practices means hiring activity is distributed across both hospital-employed and independent practice settings.
Which New York cities have the most dermatologist jobs?
Bronx, Plattsburgh, and East Syracuse have the most dermatologist openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its dense population, major academic medical centers, and the high concentration of specialty clinics, while Buffalo and Rochester generate consistent demand through their regional hospital systems and university-affiliated medical programs serving large patient catchment areas.
Are there remote dermatologist jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of dermatologist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of most dermatology practice. The positions most likely to carry any remote component are teledermatology roles focused on asynchronous image review or follow-up consultations rather than full-scope clinical practice.
How can I get hired as a dermatologist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path for early-career dermatologists in New York is applying directly to residency-to-employment pipeline programs at large academic systems like NYU Langone, Northwell Health, or NewYork-Presbyterian, which regularly hire new residency graduates into associate attending roles. Completing a Mohs surgery or dermatopathology fellowship adds a concrete procedural credential that many New York group practices list as a differentiator. Candidates without full attending experience can also look at dermatology physician assistant or resident locum positions as lateral steps into permanent roles.
