Dermatologist Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a dermatologist in Minnesota?
You must hold an active license from the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice, which requires completing medical school, a dermatology residency accredited by the ACGME, and passing the USMLE or COMLEX exam series. After training, you apply to the Board for a full unrestricted license. Many Minnesota employers also expect board certification through the American Board of Dermatology, though newly trained physicians may be hired as board-eligible while completing the certification process.
How much do dermatologists make in Minnesota?
Dermatologists in Minnesota earn a median of about $625,790 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $79,450 for the lowest 10% to over $728,210 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire dermatologists in Minnesota?
Minnesota dermatologist roles are posted by University of Minnesota Physicians, HealthPartners, and Ridgeview and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Minnesota's large integrated health systems and specialty clinic groups tend to post the most consistent volume of openings throughout the year.
Which Minnesota cities have the most dermatologist jobs?
Minneapolis, Mankato, and Waconia account for the largest share of dermatologist openings in Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro drives volume through its concentration of large health systems and multispecialty groups, while Rochester's market is anchored by Mayo Clinic's nationally recognized dermatology and Mohs surgery programs, making it a consistent source of openings despite its smaller overall population.
Are there remote dermatologist jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, but they're rare. Dermatology is fundamentally a hands-on clinical specialty requiring in-person patient examination, procedures, and biopsies, which limits remote options significantly. About 0% of dermatologist openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions are typically limited to teledermatology triage, image review, or administrative and supervisory roles within larger health systems.
How can I get hired as a dermatologist in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a first attending position immediately after completing your dermatology residency, positioning yourself as board-eligible. Mayo Clinic and M Health Fairview both recruit new fellowship and residency graduates into supervised attending roles. Candidates who add a fellowship in Mohs surgery or pediatric dermatology gain a measurable edge in Minnesota's market. Physicians completing general practice or internal medicine training can also pursue a lateral move by completing a dermatology residency through Minnesota-based programs before applying.
Where can I find and apply to dermatologist jobs in Minnesota?
You can find and apply to dermatologist jobs in Minnesota on Migrate Mate, which lists current Minnesota openings from employers across the state. Find the roles that fit your specialty, training level, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that match.
