Pharmacist Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pharmacist in Indiana?
You become a pharmacist in Indiana by earning a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited program, then passing the NAPLEX and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination for Indiana through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency, which oversees pharmacist licensure in the state. Most candidates also complete an internship program approved by the IPLA before sitting for the exams. Maintaining your Indiana license requires continuing education hours each renewal cycle.
How much do pharmacists make in Indiana?
Pharmacists in Indiana earn a median of about $144,290 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $107,050 for the lowest 10% to over $169,360 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire pharmacists in Indiana?
Indiana pharmacist roles are posted by CVS Health, Walgreens, and Walmart and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Indiana's mix of large regional hospital systems, retail pharmacy chains, and self-insured employers headquartered in the state creates a broad and consistent range of openings across clinical, community, and managed care settings.
Which Indiana cities have the most pharmacist jobs?
Indianapolis, Evansville, and New Albany have the most pharmacist openings in Indiana right now. Indianapolis dominates because it is home to Indiana University Health, Franciscan Health's regional hub, and the corporate offices of several major pharmacy benefit managers, while Fort Wayne and Evansville draw demand from their own regional hospital systems and the dense network of retail pharmacy locations serving those metro populations.
Are there remote pharmacist jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they're rare. About 13% of pharmacist openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting that most pharmacy roles require an on-site licensed presence for dispensing, patient counseling, or clinical rounding. The positions most likely to be fully remote are in medication therapy management, prior authorization review, and clinical informatics, where pharmacist judgment is applied through documentation rather than direct dispensing.
How can I get hired as a pharmacist in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a post-graduate year one residency, and Indiana University Health, Eskenazi Health, and Franciscan Health all run ASHP-accredited PGY-1 programs that new graduates can apply to directly after licensure. Candidates without residency experience often start in staff pharmacist roles at high-volume retail or long-term care settings, which build the dispensing and counseling record that hospital systems want. Having your Indiana IPLA license in hand before applying and completing at least one IPPE or APPE rotation at an Indiana site gives you a measurable edge.
Where can I find and apply to pharmacist jobs in Indiana?
You can find and apply to pharmacist jobs in Indiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your experience and the practice setting you want, and apply directly to whichever positions fit your background.
