Pharmacist Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pharmacist in New Jersey?
To become a pharmacist in New Jersey, you must earn a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited program, pass both the NAPLEX and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination, and apply for licensure through the New Jersey State Board of Pharmacy. New Jersey also requires completion of an internship with a licensed preceptor before a license is issued. Once licensed, pharmacists must meet continuing education requirements to maintain active status.
How much do pharmacists make in New Jersey?
Pharmacists in New Jersey earn a median of about $137,620 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $112,560 for the lowest 10% to over $172,110 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire pharmacists in New Jersey?
Employers hiring pharmacists in New Jersey right now include CVS Health, Walgreens, and AnewHealth, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New Jersey's mix of large academic health systems, specialty pharmacy operations, and retail chains means consistent openings across multiple practice settings throughout the state.
Which New Jersey cities have the most pharmacist jobs?
The cities with the most pharmacist openings in New Jersey are Newark, Barnegat, and Moorestown. This distribution reflects the density of major hospital systems and health networks anchored in the Newark metro, the concentration of state government and outpatient clinics in Trenton, and the retail and specialty pharmacy activity driven by large suburban populations in the Camden and Cherry Hill corridor.
Are there remote pharmacist jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, but they're rare. Most pharmacist work requires an on-site presence for dispensing, patient counseling, and medication verification. About 15% of pharmacist openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to be concentrated in managed care, utilization review, and telepharmacy roles rather than traditional dispensing positions.
How can I get hired as a pharmacist in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a PGY-1 pharmacy residency, and New Jersey has strong programs through RWJBarnabas Health, Hackensack Meridian Health, and the VA New Jersey Health Care System. New graduates without residency experience can also target staff pharmacist roles at retail chains or apply to pharmacy technician-to-pharmacist transition programs. Holding an active New Jersey license and completing an APPE rotation with a New Jersey employer often leads directly to a job offer.
Where can I find and apply to pharmacist jobs in New Jersey?
You can find and apply to pharmacist jobs in New Jersey on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings to see what matches your experience level and preferred setting, then apply directly to the roles that fit.
