Entry Level Civil Designer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level civil designer job?
Entry level civil designer roles favor candidates who bring a relevant degree in civil engineering or a related field, hands-on AutoCAD or Civil 3D skills, and concrete examples of project work, even from coursework or internships. A focused portfolio showing site plans, grading designs, or drainage layouts gives you a real edge over candidates who list software skills without demonstrating them.
Which companies hire entry level civil designers?
Companies hiring entry level civil designers right now include GHD, LandDesign, and LaBella Associates, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a mix of regional engineering consultancies, municipal agencies, and large infrastructure firms that regularly bring on junior staff to support active project pipelines.
Are there remote entry level civil designer jobs?
Yes, though fully remote roles are less common in civil design than in some other fields given the plan review and site coordination involved. About 32% of entry level civil designer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, so hybrid arrangements are the most realistic target for candidates who want schedule flexibility at this stage.
Are these new grad civil designer jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior civil designer roles. A new grad friendly posting typically welcomes zero to two years of experience and accepts internship work, capstone projects, or a portfolio in place of full professional experience. Look for language like "new graduates encouraged" or "0-2 years" in the requirements section as a reliable signal.
Which industries hire the most entry level civil designers?
Entry Level civil designer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive consistent hiring at the entry level because infrastructure investment, land development, and public works projects require large teams where junior designers handle drafting, quantity takeoffs, and permit support under senior engineers.
