Civil Project Engineer Jobs in Charlotte: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a civil project engineer job in Charlotte?
Charlotte's strongest hiring comes from transportation and road infrastructure firms, land development consultancies, and municipal engineering departments serving Mecklenburg County and CDOT. Candidates with NCDOT project experience, familiarity with Charlotte's rapid growth corridors like the South End and University City, and proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation stand out. Targeting engineering consultancies tied to Charlotte's transit expansion and mixed-use development pipeline gives applicants a concrete edge in this market.
Which companies hire civil project engineers in Charlotte?
Charlotte civil project engineer roles are posted by Bolton & Menk, Bolton & Menk, and S&ME and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Charlotte's employer mix leans heavily toward regional engineering consultancies, land development firms, and public-sector agencies managing the metro's infrastructure growth.
Are there remote civil project engineer jobs in Charlotte?
Yes, though sparingly. Civil project engineering is largely site-dependent, so fully remote roles are uncommon. About 38% of civil project engineer openings tied to Charlotte are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, which tends to reflect positions focused on design, drafting, or project coordination rather than field oversight. Hybrid schedules are more common at larger consultancies in Uptown and South End.
How can I get a civil project engineer job in Charlotte with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Charlotte is through a staff engineer or project engineer I role at a regional civil consultancy or the City of Charlotte's Engineering and Property Management department. Local firms supporting Charlotte's growth in stormwater management, road widening, and subdivision development regularly hire recent graduates. A PE-in-training designation, experience with Civil 3D from coursework, and internships tied to NCDOT or Mecklenburg County projects all strengthen a first application here.
Which industries hire the most civil project engineers in Charlotte?
Charlotte civil project engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Charlotte's sustained population growth, active transit investment, and ongoing expansion of mixed-use developments in corridors like South End and University City continue to drive consistent demand across those sectors.
