Civil Project Engineer Jobs in Raleigh: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a civil project engineer job in Raleigh?
Focus on the sectors driving the most activity in Raleigh: municipal road and stormwater projects through the City of Raleigh and Wake County, private land development tied to the region's rapid residential growth, and transportation work along the I-440 and I-540 corridors. Engineers who can read grading plans, manage subconsultants, and navigate Wake County permitting move to the front of candidate pools faster than those with only design experience.
Which companies hire civil project engineers in Raleigh?
Companies currently hiring civil project engineers in Raleigh include S&ME, EMCOR, and Atwell, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Raleigh's market is a mix of national engineering firms with local offices, regional land development consultants, and public-sector agencies managing the city's infrastructure expansion.
Are there remote civil project engineer jobs in Raleigh?
Yes, though with meaningful limits, since civil project engineering typically requires on-site presence for inspections, contractor coordination, and field review. About 0% of civil project engineer openings tied to Raleigh are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting employers who allow remote work for design and report-writing phases. The roles most compatible with hybrid schedules in Raleigh tend to sit within larger firms that separate design duties from construction administration.
How can I get a civil project engineer job in Raleigh with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Raleigh is a staff or junior engineer role at one of the mid-size civil consulting firms that regularly take on Wake County and NCDOT subconsultant work, where new graduates rotate through drainage, grading, and site plan tasks. Internship experience with a Raleigh-area land developer or municipal utility department carries real weight locally, and candidates who already hold an EIT certification and can demonstrate AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency stand out in early interviews.
Which industries hire the most civil project engineers in Raleigh?
The sectors hiring the most civil project engineers in Raleigh are Construction & Real Estate and Investment & Asset Management, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Raleigh's sustained population growth and the city's ongoing investment in road, stormwater, and utility infrastructure keep demand steady across both private development consultants and public-sector project sponsors.
