JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general to moderate direction of the System Director Lab & Pathology Services and other members of the departmental leadership team, performs a wide variety of laboratory analyses by methodologies that vary from basic and moderately complex to highly complex, according to established standards and procedures in order to obtain valid data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Utilizes and maintains high technology, scientific equipment and recognizes and resolves testing problems and invalid or inconsistent test data. Exhibits the F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs clinical laboratory tests to provide accurate diagnostic and therapeutic data while observing appropriate safety and personal protection policies.

Performs quality control studies to ensure the validity of laboratory data.

Maintains equipment and work area in a manner to ensure quality of test results and to provide a safe work environment.

Collects and processes laboratory specimens to prepare for clinical laboratory studies.

Functions as a resource or provides assistance for technicians, new Associates, students and laboratory assistants.

Contributes to the effective, efficient operations of the Clinical Laboratory.

Recommends test selection and implements new test methodologies.

Develops and/or revises Lab manuals, reports, & other documents to meet and maintain CAP accreditation standards.

Evaluates processes and recommends changes to enhance efficiency.

Maintains low costs through supply ordering selection and management procedure.

Evaluates and recommends selection of new instrumentation.
-
Establishes technical procedures.
-
Participates in research activities.

Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results and takes appropriate action.

Assists in compilation, tabulation, and preliminary analysis of data.

Considers the age of the patients served, applies knowledge of growth and development and age-specific techniques through the life span (neonates/infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics) in planning and implementing care.

WORKING CONDITIONS, HAZARDS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Works standard work week with overtime as necessary to meet workload and staffing requirements; rotating weekends and holidays. Workload and staffing may require alteration in regularly scheduled shift. Moderate physical exertion with moderate to marked stress levels. Moderate noise level due to centrifuges and other instrumentation. Light to moderate moving of supplies. Works with toxic, caustic, and flammable chemicals and reagents. The task of this job involves exposure to blood, body fluids and tissues. Must be able to move or position 25 lbs. independently.
CONTACTS WITH OTHERS:
Contact with patients, families, visitors, nursing, and other hospital Associates. Works closely with other departmental Associates. Also has contact with physicians and with students in clinical rotations.
EQUIPMENT USED/SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
Automated and non-automated laboratory instrumentation and tools.
Requirements
Minimum one (1) year of experience as a Medical Technologist in a hospital laboratory is preferred.
Shift: 3rd Shift
Compensation: $26.85 - $42.67 Based on Experience. $10,000 sign on bonus. 12.5% night shift diff. 5% weekend shift diff.
