About us:
Aeva’s mission is to bring the next wave of perception to a broad range of applications from automated driving to industrial robotics, consumer electronics, consumer health, security, and beyond. Aeva is transforming autonomy with its groundbreaking sensing and perception technology that integrates all key LiDAR components onto a silicon photonics chip in a compact module. Aeva 4D LiDAR sensors uniquely detect instant velocity in addition to 3D position, allowing autonomous devices like vehicles and robots to make more intelligent and safe decisions.
Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced manager for the Test Engineering team. Your team will be responsible for designing stations used in Aeva’s manufacturing line, which includes silicon photonics & III-V components and assemblies, optical modules and PCBAs. Additional responsibilities include driving manufacturing engineering and automation for all assembly and test stations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optics/photonics, test and automation, manufacturing station development and deployment in high volume manufacturing.
What you'll be doing:
- Lead development of test stations for Aeva’s LiDAR manufacturing line, including hardware design, automation and integration with factory MES systems.
- Influence the design of stations (DfT and DfM) for touch-less assembly in the manufacturing line. This includes collaborating with contract manufacturers and equipment vendors to integrate material handling systems and factory automation.
- Develop the test strategy for the product, working cross-functionally with stakeholders such as the product design, manufacturing, and quality teams to determine test requirements and drive execution of associated projects.
- Analyze test data to identify trends, identify root causes of failures, and drive continuous improvement in the manufacturing process.
- Lead the test and automation engineering teams consisting of software development, hardware design and integration groups.
- Collaborate and influence the product development process and schedules, lead yield reporting and failure analysis process.
What you'll have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, optical engineering or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in test and automation engineering, with at least 5 years in mid-level management roles.
- Proven experience in developing custom stations for test and assembly that have been deployed in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Experience in Python and C++ programming, and agile management of software teams.
- Experience working in optics and/or photonics.
- Experience with PCBA test and design for test for ICT and FCT.
- Experience working with industrial robots and handling systems.
- Previous experience in leading and managing teams, fostering collaboration, and driving results.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and provide effective solutions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
What's in it for you:
- Be part of an early start-up that's backed by industry-leading venture capitalists.
- Very competitive compensation and meaningful equity!
- Exceptional benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, and more!
- 401k matching.
- Unlimited PTO: We care about results, not punching timecards.
- Paid lunches, ping pong tournaments, and fun team off-sites!
Compensation
- Salary Range: $181,100 - $245,000 a year
Salary pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, certifications, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges are subject to change in the future.
Depending on the position offered, equity, bonus, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, pre-tax commuter and health care/dependent care accounts, 401k plan, life and disability benefits, flexible time off, paid parental leave, and 11 paid holidays annually.

Align your degree field to Aeva's stack
H-1B sponsorship requires your role to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning your degree must directly relate to the position. For Aeva's Engineering roles, degrees in electrical engineering, computer science, or photonics carry more weight than general STEM fields.
Research which Engineering teams are actively hiring
Aeva's open headcount tends to concentrate in perception software, ASIC design, and systems integration. Target your application to teams with active requisitions rather than submitting broadly. A focused application signals genuine technical fit rather than opportunistic interest.
Ask about LCA filing status before accepting an offer
Your H-1B cannot be filed until the Department of Labor certifies a Labor Condition Application for your specific role and work location. Before signing, confirm the LCA is either filed or already certified so you know where you are in the timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to surface Aeva's active Engineering roles
Visa-sponsored Engineering openings at deep-tech companies like Aeva aren't always easy to find through general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for sponsorship-confirmed Engineering roles and track Aeva's current listings in one place.
Prepare your patent and publication record early
Aeva's Engineering roles often require demonstrable technical contributions. If you're building toward an EB-1A or EB-2 NIW pathway alongside an H-1B, compile patents, conference papers, and product contributions now. USCIS evaluates these as evidence of extraordinary ability or national interest.
Account for the H-1B lottery window in your OPT planning
If you're on F-1 OPT, the H-1B registration window opens each March for an October 1 start date. If you miss a lottery cycle, your 24-month STEM OPT extension gives you additional time without interrupting employment at Aeva while you wait for the next registration period.

Find Engineering at Aeva JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Aeva sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Aeva sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering roles. The company operates in a specialized area of sensor and perception technology where most qualifying positions meet the specialty occupation standard required for H-1B eligibility. If you receive an offer, your employer initiates the Labor Condition Application with the DOL and then files the H-1B petition with USCIS on your behalf.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Aeva?
Applications go through Aeva's careers page, where roles are listed by team and location. For international candidates, Migrate Mate lets you filter for Aeva's Engineering openings specifically confirmed for visa sponsorship, so you're not spending time on roles that don't match your immigration situation. Tailor your resume to the specific engineering discipline listed in each job description.
Which visa types does Aeva commonly use for Engineering hires?
Aeva sponsors H-1B visas for most Engineering hires and supports F-1 OPT and STEM OPT for recent graduates already authorized to work. For longer-term permanent residency, the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based Green Card categories are the typical pathways, usually initiated by the employer through the PERM labor certification process after a period of employment.
What qualifications does Aeva look for in Engineering candidates?
Aeva's Engineering roles span hardware, firmware, software, and systems, but the common thread is depth in a technical domain relevant to lidar or autonomous perception. Expect a bachelor's degree minimum in a directly related engineering field, with graduate degrees or prior experience in photonics, ASIC design, robotics, or sensor fusion being competitive differentiators. Strong fundamentals in your specific discipline matter more than broad generalist experience.
How do I think about timing if I need visa sponsorship to work at Aeva?
If you're on F-1 OPT, the most critical window is the annual H-1B lottery, with registration opening each March for an October 1 start date. If you're outside the U.S., consular processing typically adds several weeks after USCIS approval. Build at least six months of lead time into your job search so an offer timeline and petition filing don't conflict with your current status expiration.
