About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the role
We are seeking a Strategic Finance Lead to own the operating P&L for Anthropic's datacenter infrastructure partnerships. This role will be the finance owner for every site covering lease, power and operations.
In this role, you will be a key partner to our infrastructure teams, providing financial expertise and guidance to keep our sites on budget, drive operating costs down, and de-risk our largest infrastructure exposures. You will own the near-term forecast for datacenter spend, run budget-vs-actual on projects, and serve as the primary finance counterpart to our datacenter operating partners.
Responsibilities:
Datacenter Financial Planning & Analysis
- Own FP&A for all live-site datacenter operating costs including lease/rent, power, hardware ops, facility/DC ops, physical security, warehousing, and operator fees
- Build and maintain per-site cost forecasts; refresh on a cadence that supports monthly reviews and board reporting
- Run budget-vs-actual on datacenter developer spend and site build budgets, tracking expected eventual spend against approved commitments
- Own the in-year power cost model across pass-through and direct costs
- Reconcile operating partner invoices to forecast and lead the finance operating cadence with datacenter partners
- Partner with Accounting on contract operationalization, lease accounting, and close
Strategic Projects
- Lead financial analysis for site-level optimization initiatives and operating model decisions
- Handle operational finance asks tied to datacenter partners and live sites
- Partner with the Datacenter Expansion lead on deal-to-operations handoffs, ensuring budgets set at signing are operationalized at commissioning
You may be a good fit if you have:
- 7+ years of experience in strategic finance, infrastructure investment, FP&A, private equity, consulting, or investment banking, preferably with datacenter, energy, real estate, telco, or managed-services infrastructure experience
- Owned an infrastructure operating P&L and driven cost-out programs against it
- Exceptional analytical skills with an ability to synthesize data into compelling insights and develop complex financial operating models
- Comfort being the finance person in the partner/vendor room and partnering with technical operating teams
- A bias towards action, strong work ethic, and experience driving operational outcomes under tight timelines
- Strong relationship building, business judgment, process management, and communication skills
- Passion for Anthropic's mission to build safe, transformative AI systems
Strong candidates may also have:
- Direct experience with datacenter, colocation, or power (PPA / energy procurement) economics and contract structures
- Experience managing finance cadence with a third-party operator or managed-services provider
- Background in AI, ML, or high-performance, large-scale computing infrastructure
- Proficiency with financial modeling tools and languages (SQL, Python, Excel)
- MBA or other advanced degree in finance, economics, or business
The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.
For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.
Annual Salary:
$235,000 - $310,000 USD
Logistics
Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience
Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position
Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.
Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
Come work with us!
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.

Frame your credentials for AI-adjacent finance
Anthropic's Finance team supports research and infrastructure spending at significant scale. Tailor your resume to show experience with R&D cost modeling, compute budget allocation, or high-growth startup financials, not just general accounting or FP&A.
Browse open Finance roles on Migrate Mate
Anthropic posts Finance openings across seniority levels, and availability shifts quickly in a fast-scaling company. Use Migrate Mate to filter for sponsorship-confirmed Finance jobs at Anthropic so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already on the table.
Prepare for a multi-stage technical interview process
Anthropic's Finance interviews typically include a case component focused on business partnership and financial modeling. Have a prepared example of how you've influenced resource allocation decisions, since that mirrors how their Finance team operates inside a research organization.
Understand the LCA requirement before your offer closes
Before USCIS can approve your H-1B petition, your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL certifying your offered wage meets prevailing levels for your role and location. Ask your recruiter where the LCA is in the process before you sign anything.
Account for cap-subject H-1B timing in your job search
If you're not currently in H-1B status, you'll need to enter the annual lottery, with petitions filed in April for an October 1 start date. Plan your Anthropic application timeline backward from that window so an offer doesn't expire before your status becomes active.

Find Finance at Anthropic JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Anthropic sponsor H-1B visas for Finance roles?
Yes, Anthropic sponsors H-1B visas for Finance positions. The company has a consistent sponsorship history for this function across roles in FP&A, strategic finance, and accounting. If you're cap-subject, you'll need to enter the H-1B lottery, which opens in March for an October 1 start. Cap-exempt applicants can be filed year-round.
Which visa types does Anthropic sponsor for Finance roles?
Anthropic sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 visas for Finance roles. H-1B1 is available to Chilean and Singaporean nationals, while E-3 is exclusive to Australian citizens. Both the H-1B1 and E-3 bypass the annual lottery, which makes them faster paths if you qualify. All three categories require the role to meet the specialty occupation standard.
How do I apply for Finance jobs at Anthropic?
Apply directly through Anthropic's careers page, where Finance roles are listed by team and seniority. Before applying, research how each role fits within Anthropic's broader finance function, supporting AI safety research, infrastructure investment, and rapid headcount growth. Tailoring your application to that context improves your chances. You can also browse sponsorship-confirmed Finance openings at Anthropic on Migrate Mate.
What qualifications does Anthropic expect for Finance roles?
Anthropic typically looks for Finance candidates with a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related quantitative field. CPA or CFA credentials strengthen applications for senior roles. Practically, the team values experience in high-growth or technology environments, comfort with ambiguous financial models, and the ability to partner directly with engineering or research stakeholders on budget decisions.
How do I think about timing if I need visa sponsorship for a Finance role at Anthropic?
If you're cap-subject for H-1B, USCIS registration opens in March and petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start date. That means a winter or spring offer needs to account for a potential gap before work authorization activates. E-3 and H-1B1 holders have more flexibility since there's no lottery, and transfers from an existing H-1B can start immediately upon filing.
