About The Role
As a Backend Software Engineer on the Remote Assistance team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the core services and infrastructure that power our remote assistance platform. Your work will involve creating the APIs, data pipelines, and backend systems that handle real-time data streaming, command processing, and communication with both the autonomous vehicles and the human operator workstations. This is a high-impact role where you will be instrumental in making autonomous trucking a reality by ensuring a reliable and scalable backend.
At Applied Intuition, you will:
- Design, develop, and deploy scalable, low-latency backend services for remote assist session management and real-time data streaming.
- Architect and implement the cloud infrastructure for remote assistance including technologies like protobuf, gRPC across multiple AWS regions.
- Design and implement the service data persistence layer using no sql databases like Redis.
- Implement data pipelines to ingest, process, and store real-time data from autonomous vehicles.
- Collaborate closely with onboard software teams and front-end engineers to ensure seamless end-to-end data flow.
- Ensure the security, reliability, and resilience of the backend platform, including handling network disruptions and failover.
- Optimize data serialization and transmission to minimize latency and bandwidth usage on the server side.
Basic Qualifications
We're looking for someone who has:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 3+ years of professional experience in web services software development and cloud infrastructure.
- Strong proficiency in a backend programming language such as Go and Python.
- Experience with distributed systems, microservices, and building scalable backend applications.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or OCI) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., Redis).
Preferred Qualifications
Nice to have:
- Experience leading projects end to end.
- Experience in a startup or fast-paced environment.

Tailor your resume to AV infrastructure
Applied Intuition builds simulation and validation tooling for autonomous vehicles. Frame your cloud experience around high-availability, latency-sensitive distributed systems rather than general DevOps work. Kubernetes orchestration, CI/CD pipelines for safety-critical software, and multi-cloud environments are what their teams actually run.
Clarify your visa category before applying
Applied Intuition sponsors multiple visa types, and the right one depends on your citizenship and current status. Australian citizens should flag E-3 eligibility upfront. Canadian or Mexican nationals on TN can often start faster. Knowing your category before the offer stage prevents delays in recruiter conversations.
Find open roles using Migrate Mate
Filter by Cloud Engineer roles at Applied Intuition on Migrate Mate to see positions explicitly tied to visa sponsorship history. This saves time you'd otherwise spend cross-referencing job boards with USCIS disclosure data to assess whether sponsorship is realistic.
Prepare credentials for specialty occupation review
H-1B approval for Cloud Engineer roles requires USCIS to confirm the position qualifies as a specialty occupation. Gather transcripts, degree equivalency evaluations if your credential is from outside the U.S., and documentation linking your specific degree field to the technical requirements in the job description.
Understand the LCA filing timeline for your offer
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can receive the H-1B petition. This step typically takes seven business days under standard processing. Factor this into your target start date conversation with the hiring team so the timeline aligns with any OPT or grace period you're managing.
Align your start date with cap and lottery deadlines
If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start. Applied Intuition has sponsored cap-exempt categories too, but if you're entering the lottery, time your application cycle so your current status covers the full gap between registration and the petition approval.

Find Cloud Engineer at Applied Intuition JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Applied Intuition sponsor H-1B visas for Cloud Engineers?
Yes, Applied Intuition sponsors H-1B visas for Cloud Engineer roles. The company operates in autonomous vehicle software and simulation infrastructure, fields where specialized cloud engineering qualifications support a specialty occupation designation. If you're currently on F-1 OPT, you can bridge to H-1B sponsorship, though cap-subject petitions require navigating the annual lottery with an October 1 start date.
How do I apply for Cloud Engineer jobs at Applied Intuition?
Browse Cloud Engineer openings at Applied Intuition through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles with confirmed sponsorship history so you're not guessing about eligibility. When you apply, tailor your materials to Applied Intuition's infrastructure stack, which supports simulation and validation platforms for autonomous systems. Flagging your visa category early in the recruiter screen avoids delays later in the process.
Which visa types does Applied Intuition commonly use for Cloud Engineer roles?
Applied Intuition sponsors H-1B and H-1B1 for most international hires, along with E-3 for Australian citizens and TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals. F-1 OPT and CPT are supported for students transitioning from university programs. For longer-term sponsorship, Applied Intuition also pursues EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways and has sponsored J-1 exchange visitors.
What qualifications does Applied Intuition expect for Cloud Engineer roles?
Applied Intuition's Cloud Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field. Practical experience with containerized infrastructure, cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP, and CI/CD systems for large-scale software is expected. Familiarity with the reliability and latency requirements of safety-critical or real-time systems strengthens your candidacy significantly.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take after receiving an offer from Applied Intuition?
Timeline depends on your visa category. TN and E-3 can move quickly, sometimes within a few weeks of offer acceptance. H-1B cap-subject petitions require waiting for the March registration window and an October 1 start, which can mean a gap of several months. USCIS premium processing for H-1B adjudication runs approximately 15 business days once the petition is filed, which Applied Intuition may elect to use.
