Align your background with healthcare SaaS sales cycles
athenahealth's BD roles center on enterprise software deals in regulated healthcare markets. Highlight experience with long B2B sales cycles, compliance-sensitive clients, or health system partnerships, these signal fluency in the environment you'll be selling into.
Confirm your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
USCIS requires H-1B roles to demand a specific bachelor's degree field, not just any degree. BD titles vary widely, so verify the posted job description ties your function to a defined discipline like business administration, health informatics, or a related field before applying.
Use Migrate Mate to target open BD roles at athenahealth
BD openings at athenahealth span partnerships, sales strategy, and market expansion. Search Migrate Mate to filter specifically for athenahealth Business Development positions that align with your visa category and seniority level.
Get your F-1 OPT timeline straight before interviews
If you're on OPT, know exactly when your authorization ends and whether your degree qualifies for the 24-month STEM extension. athenahealth sponsors H-1B, so a seamless OPT-to-H-1B transition is realistic, but timing your offer relative to the April H-1B registration window matters.
Prepare credentials that support an EB-2 or EB-3 case early
athenahealth sponsors both EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways, which involve a PERM labor certification filed with the DOL. Start gathering transcripts, prior employment verification letters, and performance documentation well before you need them.
Ask about sponsorship scope during the offer conversation
Not every BD role at a sponsoring company triggers the same immigration support. Clarify whether sponsorship covers your specific visa category, whether the company covers filing fees, and how they handle TN renewals if you're a Canadian or Mexican national on that status.

Find Business Development at athenahealth JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does athenahealth sponsor H-1B visas for Business Developments?
Yes, athenahealth sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development roles. The H-1B requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning the job must typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. BD roles at athenahealth generally meet this threshold given their focus on enterprise healthcare software, but the specific job description you're applying to will determine eligibility.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at athenahealth?
Applications go through athenahealth's careers portal, where BD roles are posted by function, region, and seniority. Tailoring your resume to emphasize healthcare technology sales, partnership management, or market development experience improves your chances significantly. You can also browse and filter athenahealth's open Business Development positions by visa type using Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles aligned with your specific sponsorship needs.
Which visa types does athenahealth commonly sponsor for Business Development roles?
athenahealth sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Business Development positions. F-1 OPT and CPT cover candidates early in their authorization window, while H-1B provides longer-term status. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. Green Card sponsorship typically follows several years of employment.
What qualifications does athenahealth expect for Business Development roles?
athenahealth's BD positions typically expect a bachelor's degree in business, health administration, or a related field, combined with experience in B2B sales, strategic partnerships, or market development. Familiarity with healthcare technology, revenue cycle management, or clinical workflows gives candidates a clear edge. Senior roles often require a demonstrated track record of enterprise deal cycles, particularly within regulated industries like healthcare or life sciences.
How does the H-1B sponsorship timeline work if I receive an offer from athenahealth?
If you're on F-1 OPT and receive an offer, your employer needs to submit your H-1B registration during the annual lottery window, which USCIS opens each March for an October 1 start date. If selected, athenahealth files the full H-1B petition with USCIS after registration. Premium processing is available to accelerate the USCIS decision to roughly 15 business days, which is useful if your OPT authorization is expiring soon.
