Who is eligible for OPT?
F-1 students who have been enrolled full-time for at least one academic year at a SEVP-certified school are eligible to apply for OPT. The work must be directly related to the student's major field of study. Standard post-completion OPT provides 12 months of work authorization. Students who graduated with a STEM degree from an accredited U.S. institution may apply for a 24-month STEM OPT extension, bringing the total to 36 months.

How do I get OPT through a top employer?
OPT authorization is obtained through the student, not through the employer. The student first requests a new I-20 with an OPT recommendation from their Designated School Official. The student then files Form I-765 with USCIS to receive an Employment Authorization Document. Once the EAD arrives, the student presents it to the employer and can begin work on or after the authorized start date. The employer does not file any forms or take any action to enable OPT.
