Align your portfolio to Bloomberg's data scale
Bloomberg's data engineering roles prioritize distributed systems experience at financial-data scale. Before applying, build out projects or documentation showing you've handled high-throughput, low-latency pipelines, not just standard ML workflows on clean datasets.
Target teams filing Labor Condition Applications early
Bloomberg's H-1B filings go through DOL's LCA process before USCIS submission. Roles posted in late fall often align with cap-season timelines, so applying between October and January puts you ahead of internal sponsorship planning cycles.
Clarify your visa category before the offer stage
Bloomberg sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, E-3, and Green Card pathways. If you're Australian or a Chilean or Singaporean national, ask your recruiter whether an H-1B1 or E-3 track is available, since these skip the lottery entirely.
Prepare a degree equivalency analysis for your credentials
Bloomberg's specialty occupation filings require a direct nexus between your degree field and the role. If your degree is in a tangential field like physics or statistics rather than computer science, get a credential evaluation done before your final interview round.

Negotiate your start date around USCIS processing windows
If you're filing a cap-subject H-1B, the earliest your employment can begin is October 1. Build this into your offer negotiation with your Bloomberg recruiter so your proposed start date is realistic and doesn't require premium processing as a last resort.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Bloomberg sponsor H-1B visas for Senior Data Science Engineers?
Yes, Bloomberg sponsors H-1B visas for Senior Data Science Engineer roles. The process involves Bloomberg filing a Labor Condition Application with DOL and then submitting a petition to USCIS on your behalf. For cap-subject H-1B cases, sponsorship is contingent on lottery selection, so Bloomberg typically initiates the process well ahead of the April registration window.
How do I apply for Senior Data Science Engineer jobs at Bloomberg?
Applications go through Bloomberg's careers portal, but finding roles that explicitly support visa sponsorship can take extra filtering. Migrate Mate lets you browse Senior Data Science Engineer openings at Bloomberg that are open to international candidates, so you can identify the right positions before investing time in a full application. Expect a multi-stage technical process covering distributed systems, data modeling, and applied ML.
Which visa types does Bloomberg commonly use for Senior Data Science Engineers?
Bloomberg sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, E-3 visa, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. H-1B is the most common route for most nationalities. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3 visa, which has no lottery. Chilean and Singaporean nationals may qualify for the H-1B1. Green Card sponsorship typically follows a period of employment and is initiated by Bloomberg through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does Bloomberg expect for Senior Data Science Engineer roles?
Bloomberg generally looks for graduate-level education in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a closely related quantitative field, combined with substantial industry experience in large-scale data systems. For visa purposes, the role must qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, meaning a direct relationship between your degree field and the position is required. Practical experience with real-time data pipelines and financial data systems is a strong differentiator.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when joining Bloomberg as a Senior Data Science Engineer?
For cap-subject H-1B cases, the timeline runs from the March lottery registration through an October 1 start date at the earliest. E-3 and H-1B1 visa filings move faster since they bypass the lottery, often completing consular processing within four to eight weeks. USCIS premium processing, if Bloomberg elects to use it, can reduce adjudication time to roughly 15 business days once the petition is filed.
