Credential your degree through a NACES member
Texas requires foreign-educated teachers to have their degrees evaluated by a NACES-approved credential evaluation service before applying for state licensure. Start this process early, evaluations can take several weeks and SBEC won't process your application without one.
Obtain your Texas teaching certificate first
Denton ISD expects candidates to hold or be actively pursuing a Texas educator certificate through SBEC. If your home country license doesn't transfer directly, identify the nearest equivalent Texas certificate and begin the out-of-state or foreign-route application before submitting your resume.
Target shortage subjects to strengthen your candidacy
Districts like Denton ISD consistently struggle to fill bilingual education, special education, and secondary STEM positions. Applying in one of these shortage areas gives your application stronger standing and makes it easier for the district to justify initiating a permanent residency sponsorship process.
Understand that sponsorship typically follows an offer
Denton ISD's visa sponsorship for teachers is structured around EB-2 or EB-3 permanent residency, not H-1B. This means sponsorship begins after an offer is extended, and the PERM labor certification process is filed through DOL before an immigrant petition is submitted to USCIS.
Clarify the district's attorney relationship during the offer stage
Large independent school districts typically retain an immigration attorney who manages PERM and immigrant petition filings. During offer negotiations, ask whether the district covers legal fees and who coordinates the DOL PERM audit documentation so you know what you'll need to prepare.
Browse open Teaching roles on Migrate Mate
Denton ISD regularly posts classroom teaching positions across multiple campuses. Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles at the district and identify which positions align with your certification area, so you're applying to the openings most likely to move through sponsorship.

Find Teaching at Denton Independent School District JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Denton Independent School District sponsor H-1B visas for Teachers?
Denton ISD's sponsorship for teaching roles is focused on permanent residency pathways, specifically EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, rather than H-1B status. Public school districts are not cap-exempt H-1B employers in the way universities are, and the nature of teaching contracts makes the Green Card route more practical for both the district and the candidate.
Which visa types are commonly used for Teaching roles at Denton Independent School District?
Teaching roles at Denton ISD are sponsored through employment-based immigrant visas, primarily EB-2 and EB-3. The process involves a PERM labor certification filed with DOL, followed by an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Some international teachers also enter the district on J-1 exchange visitor status through a separate cultural exchange program before pursuing permanent sponsorship.
What qualifications or experience are expected for Teaching roles at Denton Independent School District?
Denton ISD requires a valid Texas educator certificate issued by SBEC, a bachelor's degree in education or a subject-specific field, and in most cases a passing score on the relevant TExES licensure exam. For foreign-educated applicants, a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved agency is required. Bilingual certification and experience in Title I or special education settings strengthen your application.
How do I apply for Teaching jobs at Denton Independent School District?
Applications are submitted through the district's online portal on the Denton ISD careers site. You'll need to create a profile, upload your resume, and attach your Texas teaching certificate or proof of active certification pursuit. Migrate Mate lists open teaching positions at Denton ISD and lets you filter by role type, so you can identify the right openings before applying directly through the district.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Teaching role at Denton Independent School District?
The EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card process for teachers typically takes two to four years from PERM filing to final approval, depending on your country of birth and priority date. PERM itself can take 12 to 18 months with DOL. The district usually initiates the process after your first year of employment, so planning your immigration timeline around the academic year cycle is important.
