Target roles with established sponsorship history
Citi's Green Card filings concentrate in technology, quantitative research, risk modeling, and compliance. Prioritize roles in these functions over generalist business positions, where sponsorship approval is less predictable and the specialty occupation case harder to document under PERM.
Understand which EB category fits your profile
Citi sponsors across EB-2 and EB-3, with EB-2 requiring an advanced degree or exceptional ability. If your role involves quantitative modeling or advanced engineering, push your hiring manager to confirm EB-2 eligibility early, before the PERM labor certification process begins.
Align your credentials to the PERM job description
During PERM, DOL audits whether your actual qualifications match the posted minimum requirements. In banking, roles often list specific technical skills or degree fields. Make sure your transcripts and prior job titles map cleanly to what Citi's HR team files, not just your current responsibilities.
Research prevailing wage before negotiating salary
Your offered salary must meet or exceed the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up your SOC code in the city where you'll work. At Citi's New York headquarters, prevailing wages in finance and technology run high, so verify before accepting an offer.
Ask about internal mobility after your I-140 is approved
Once USCIS approves your I-140 petition, your priority date is locked even if you change roles internally. At a large institution like Citi, moving teams before I-140 approval can restart the PERM process entirely, so time any role changes carefully around your filing milestones.
Use Migrate Mate to identify active Green Card sponsors
Before applying, verify that the specific Citi business unit you're targeting has an active Green Card sponsorship track record. Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application filing data by employer and role, so you can see which functions at Citi are sponsoring and apply with confidence.
Citi Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Citi sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Citi sponsors Green Card visas and is one of the most active sponsors in U.S. banking and financial services. Sponsorship is most consistent in technology, quantitative analysis, risk, and compliance functions. Green Card support is typically offered to employees already on a nonimmigrant visa, such as H-1B visa, after an initial period of employment.
Which departments at Citi are most likely to sponsor a Green Card?
Technology, quantitative research, risk modeling, and compliance are the departments where Green Card sponsorship at Citi is most established. These roles tend to meet the specialty occupation and advanced degree standards that support EB-2 filings. Front-office and generalist business roles are sponsored less consistently and often depend on the specific business unit's headcount and immigration budget.
How do I navigate the Green Card process once Citi agrees to sponsor me?
Citi's immigration team typically manages the PERM labor certification filing with DOL, followed by the I-140 petition with USCIS. Your role is to ensure your credentials, transcripts, and employment history align precisely with the job description filed under PERM. Any mismatch between your actual qualifications and the posted requirements can trigger a DOL audit or denial.
How long does the Green Card process take when sponsored by Citi?
The PERM labor certification stage alone can take six months to over a year, depending on DOL processing times and whether an audit is triggered. After PERM approval, the I-140 petition adds several more months. If your country of birth has a priority date backlog, the total wait before you can file for adjustment of status can extend significantly beyond the initial filing timeline.
How do I find open Green Card sponsorship roles at Citi?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by employers with verified Green Card sponsorship history, including Citi, so you can target open roles in departments where sponsorship is most active. Applying through channels where sponsorship intent is already confirmed saves time compared to asking individual hiring managers whether Green Card support is available for a specific position.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Citi?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
