Align your infrastructure experience with fintech compliance
Gusto operates in a regulated financial environment, so highlight experience with SOC 2, PCI-DSS, or FedRAMP-adjacent infrastructure in your resume. Compliance-aware DevOps skills are weighted more heavily here than at a typical SaaS employer.
Target roles that mention platform or reliability engineering
Gusto's Staff DevOps openings often frame the role around platform reliability and developer experience, not just CI/CD pipelines. Filtering for those signals in job descriptions helps you identify postings where your background maps cleanly to the actual scope.
Confirm H-1B sponsorship intent before the final interview round
Gusto sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles, but sponsorship decisions can vary by team headcount and fiscal quarter. Ask your recruiter directly during the pre-offer screen, not after the offer, so you're not negotiating sponsorship under deadline pressure.
Prepare for a PERM-supported Green Card timeline from day one
If you're on H-1B and targeting permanent residence, Gusto has filed EB-2 and EB-3 petitions for engineers. Understanding the PERM labor certification timeline, which typically runs 12 to 18 months before USCIS adjudication, lets you set realistic expectations in your offer conversations.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Staff DevOps roles by sponsorship type
Many job boards don't distinguish between H-1B, E-3, and Green Card sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to search Gusto's open Staff DevOps positions filtered by the specific visa type you need, so you're not applying blind to roles that may not match your immigration situation.
Get your E-3 LCA filed before your start date if you're Australian
If you're an Australian citizen applying on an E-3, the Labor Condition Application must be certified by the DOL before your visa interview. Gusto's HR team will need lead time to prepare it, so flag your visa category as early as the recruiter screen.

Does Gusto sponsor H-1B visas for Staff Devops Engineers?
Yes, Gusto sponsors H-1B visas for Staff DevOps Engineers. The company has a documented history of filing H-1B petitions for engineering roles, including at the staff level. If sponsorship is a requirement for you, raise it with the recruiter during the initial screen rather than waiting until the offer stage to avoid any delays in the process.
How do I apply for Staff Devops Engineer jobs at Gusto?
You can browse and apply for Staff DevOps Engineer openings at Gusto directly through their careers page or through Migrate Mate, which lets you filter Gusto's open roles by visa sponsorship type. Before applying, review the job description for signals like platform reliability, infrastructure security, or developer tooling, as these indicate the specific team focus and help you tailor your application accordingly.
Which visa types does Gusto commonly use for Staff Devops Engineer roles?
Gusto sponsors multiple visa categories for engineering roles, including the H-1B for specialty occupation workers, the E-3 for Australian citizens, and both EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa classifications for Green Card sponsorship. The H-1B is the most broadly applicable path for international candidates, while the E-3 offers a faster and cap-exempt alternative specifically for Australians in qualifying specialty occupation roles.
What qualifications are expected for a Staff Devops Engineer at Gusto?
Staff DevOps Engineer roles at Gusto typically require several years of hands-on infrastructure experience, with depth in areas like Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipeline architecture, and cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP. Given Gusto's position in the financial services space, experience with security controls, compliance frameworks like SOC 2, and high-availability system design is frequently emphasized in their job descriptions alongside strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take for a role at Gusto?
For a standard H-1B petition, USCIS regular processing currently runs three to six months after the April 1 filing window opens, with an October 1 start date for cap-subject petitions. Premium processing shortens adjudication to 15 business days for an additional fee. If you're already in H-1B status and changing employers, Gusto can file a transfer petition that lets you start work upon receipt, without waiting for final approval.
