Overview:
The Occupational Therapist I is an early career professional that will perform evaluation and subsequent planning, execution, and supervision of therapy programs for persons with sensory motor or neuromotor dysfunction. The incumbent will participate in intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary training programs for affiliating students, staff, and community agencies; clinical supervision of Occupational Therapy students, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs), and volunteers/aides; and maintain appropriate patient records and documentation.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate assigned patients using acquired information about the patient’s functional skills, roles, and context. Prioritize needs and analyze information obtained from the occupational profile to begin the treatment planning process.
- Develop treatment plans consistent with best practices, well-grounded in evidence, and utilizing clinical reasoning.
- Execute client-centered, compassionate, culturally sensitive, meaningful, and effective treatment plans that progress client towards long term goals.
- Select well-reasoned intervention strategies and approaches that are developmentally appropriate, meaningful, and support the appropriate frame of reference/model.
- Recognize and consistently respond in a therapeutic manner to environmental stressors, challenging client behaviors, and the multiple demands of working in a pediatric setting.
- Collaborate with patients and families for identification of occupational therapy needs and prioritization of treatment goals and plans with provision of written guidance to caregivers as appropriate.
- Produce documentation that is thorough, objective, pertinent, organized, free from grammatical and spelling errors, concise, clinically accurate, readable for multiple audiences, and in adherence to Institute, department, American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), and Maryland state Occupational Therapy guidelines.
- Actively collaborate in inter/intra-disciplinary and supervisory relationships, demonstrating initiative, effective listening, good judgment to manage time and caseload, and communication with peers and supervisor that is professional and respectful.
- Actively take a role in ensuring that schedule template is up to date, schedule is full, and make-up sessions are offered as needed. Proactively and respectfully work with the Care Center and supervisor to anticipate schedule needs and changes while meeting productivity standards.
- May supervise affiliating level I students and visitors. May provide guidance and direction to Rehabilitation Aide, and Rehabilitation Tech activities.
- Perform set-up and clean-up of treatment supplies and treatment space, adhering to all safety and infection control policies and procedures.
- Utilize good fiscal judgement with expendable supplies and order requests.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess and maintain licensure to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the State of Maryland.
- Must possess and maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of occupational therapy required.
- Master’s degree highly preferred.
Experience:
- Previous experience in pediatrics and/or rehabilitation and treatment is preferred.
Minimum pay range: USD $74,000.00/Yr. Maximum pay range: USD $101,504.00/Yr.
