Frame your credentials around KPMG's practice areas
KPMG's Legal Consultant roles typically sit within its tax, regulatory, or forensic advisory practices. When preparing your resume and portfolio, align your experience to one of these verticals rather than presenting generalist legal credentials. Hiring managers look for direct practice-area fit, not just JD or LLM attainment.
Target KPMG's advisory offices in major metros
KPMG concentrates Legal Consultant hiring in cities like New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, and Houston, where its advisory and regulatory compliance teams are largest. Applying to roles anchored in these offices improves your chances of landing in a team with an active sponsorship pipeline.
Clarify your visa category before the offer stage
KPMG sponsors H-1B, E-3, and employment-based Green Cards for Legal Consultants, but each pathway has different timing implications. If you're approaching cap season or an OPT deadline, raise your visa situation with the recruiter before an offer is extended so USCIS timelines don't create offer gaps.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Legal Consultant roles
Searching for sponsor-friendly legal roles inside Big Four firms manually is slow. Use Migrate Mate to filter Legal Consultant openings at KPMG by visa type, so you're only reviewing roles the firm is actively prepared to sponsor rather than applying blind.
Understand how PERM shapes your Green Card timeline
If KPMG pursues an EB-2 or EB-3 pathway for you, the PERM labor certification process through DOL must be completed before the immigrant petition can be filed. Recruitment records are central to PERM compliance, so be prepared for a formal internal hiring process even if you're already working at the firm.
Prepare for a structured interview process tied to practice groups
KPMG Legal Consultant interviews typically involve multiple rounds with practice group leads, not just HR screens. Prepare to discuss specific regulatory or transactional matters relevant to your target practice area. Demonstrating subject-matter depth early signals you can perform at client level from day one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does KPMG sponsor H-1B visas for Legal Consultants?
Yes, KPMG sponsors H-1B visas for Legal Consultant roles. As a large professional services firm with a structured immigration program, KPMG works with in-house or external immigration counsel to manage H-1B filings. If you're subject to the annual H-1B cap, timing your offer relative to the April lottery window is critical to avoid gaps in work authorization.
Which visa types are commonly used for Legal Consultant roles at KPMG?
KPMG sponsors H-1B visas for most nationalities and E-3 visas specifically for Australian citizens in Legal Consultant roles. For candidates seeking permanent residence, KPMG supports employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3, typically after you've established yourself in the role. Each pathway has different sponsorship timelines and eligibility requirements worth understanding before you apply.
What qualifications or experience does KPMG expect for Legal Consultant positions?
KPMG typically expects a JD, LLM, or equivalent law degree for Legal Consultant roles, often paired with bar admission or licensure relevant to the practice area. Practical experience in regulatory compliance, transactional advisory, tax law, or forensic matters is valued over generalist legal backgrounds. Candidates with Big Four or professional services experience tend to align most closely with what hiring managers are screening for.
How do I apply for Legal Consultant jobs at KPMG?
Applications go through KPMG's careers portal, where roles are listed by practice area and location. To find Legal Consultant openings that include visa sponsorship, you can browse Migrate Mate, which filters KPMG roles by the visa types they support. After applying, expect an initial recruiter screen followed by multiple rounds with practice group leadership before an offer stage.
How do I manage timing if my work authorization has a deadline?
If you're on OPT with an approaching expiration or in a 60-day grace period, be upfront with KPMG's recruiter early in the process. KPMG's immigration program has handled time-sensitive filings before, but the firm needs lead time to engage counsel and prepare the H-1B or E-3 petition. USCIS premium processing, which currently adjudicates petitions within 15 business days, is an option if standard timelines are too tight.
