Target design and technical roles first
NBBJ's sponsored positions have historically concentrated in architecture, design, and technical disciplines. Focus your applications on roles that align with your specialty occupation credentials, these are the positions most likely to come with H-1B or TN sponsorship support.
Understand the specialty occupation requirement
Architecture and design roles at NBBJ typically require a degree in a directly related field. Before applying, confirm your educational background aligns with the specific role, a mismatch between your degree and job title can complicate the sponsorship process significantly.
Apply ahead of H-1B registration season
NBBJ participates in the H-1B cap process. If you're targeting a cap-subject H-1B, aim to have an offer secured by early in the calendar year, USCIS registration typically opens in March, and employers need lead time to prepare filings.
Search for NBBJ openings on verified sponsorship platforms
Not every job posting mentions visa sponsorship upfront. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, making it easier to confirm NBBJ is actively hiring before investing time in an application.
Highlight licensed or credentialed design experience
NBBJ values candidates with demonstrated professional credentials in architecture and related fields. If you hold licensure or have project experience on large-scale real estate or institutional work, lead with that, it strengthens both your candidacy and the specialty occupation case for sponsorship.

Find NBBJ JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does NBBJ sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, NBBJ sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying roles. The firm operates in architecture and design, fields that generally meet the specialty occupation standard required for H-1B approval. Sponsorship tends to concentrate in technical and design-focused positions where a specific degree in a related discipline is a genuine job requirement, not just a preference.
What visa types does NBBJ sponsor?
NBBJ sponsors both H-1B and TN visas. H-1B is available to nationals of any country in qualifying specialty occupation roles. TN is exclusive to Canadian and Mexican nationals and covers specific professional categories including architecture. If you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship and qualify under TN, it can be a faster and more predictable path than H-1B.
Which roles or departments at NBBJ are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at NBBJ is most common in architecture, design, and technical roles where a specific degree is central to the job. Positions in project design, computational design, urban planning, and related disciplines are the strongest candidates. General administrative or business support roles are less likely to meet the specialty occupation threshold required for H-1B approval.
How do I find current visa-sponsored job openings at NBBJ?
NBBJ doesn't always flag sponsorship availability on individual job postings. Migrate Mate is built specifically for this, it aggregates verified sponsorship data so you can browse NBBJ openings knowing the firm has a real track record of filing for international employees. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying and hoping sponsorship is available.
How do I time my application to NBBJ around the H-1B process?
For cap-subject H-1B roles, USCIS registration opens in March each year, with the lottery typically completed by April. To be included, you need an offer and a registered petition before that window opens. Targeting NBBJ in the final quarter of the previous year gives you enough lead time for interviews, offer negotiations, and employer preparation without missing the cycle.
