Job Description:
At Piper Sandler, we connect capital with opportunity to build a better future.
We enable growth and success of our clients through deep sector expertise, candid advice, and a differentiated, highly productive culture. Our mission is to recruit, develop, and retain high-performing people who are bright, committed, and who work in partnership with others to achieve at a high level.
We are currently looking for a Public Finance Investment Banking Analyst to join our national analyst support hub in Leawood, KS, a tight-knit team of driven early-career professionals who learn from one another and are building toward the same goal: a long-term career as a producing public finance banker.
About our Public Finance Group
We are a national public finance investment banking franchise with a diversified business focused on middle market issuers and specialty sector expertise. Our core business is partnering with state and local governments, education sector leaders, not-for-profits, and private developers to raise capital for infrastructure projects through the issuance of tax-exempt and taxable bonds. We finance a broad spectrum of projects across our regional footprint and our specialty sector coverage. Learn more about our public finance team here.
About the Role and Your Career Path
This is more than an analyst seat. It's the first step on a defined career track toward becoming a client-facing, revenue-generating banker. As part of a collaborative team, you'll gain broad, hands-on exposure across the full lifecycle of municipal finance transactions, including RFP responses, bond sizing and cash flow modeling, debt profile analysis, and transaction execution, working with peers and senior bankers, and increasingly, directly with clients.
From there, high performers earn the opportunity to relocate to one of our regional offices, where they take on greater client ownership and begin developing the origination and relationship management skills of a producing banker. Think of relocation not as a requirement, but as the reward: a clear, achievable milestone that marks your transition from junior banker to future revenue producer.
We are especially interested in candidates who, beyond technical excellence, show early signs of the intangibles of a revenue producer: the ability to build rapport quickly, communicate persuasively, read a room, and turn client interactions into trust and opportunity. If you see yourself as part of a high-performing team on a career path that leads to pitching deals, managing client relationships, and generating business, this role, and this team, is designed for you.
Qualifications
- Degree in finance, economics, accounting, business, management, engineering, or other related fields
- Demonstrated high achievement, particularly in team or competitive settings
- Operates consistently with the highest degree of integrity and accountability
- Quickly builds trust and rapport across multiple constituencies, a foundational skill for future client development
- Excellent analytical and financial modeling skills
- Thrives in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment
- Enthusiastic, highly self-motivated, and willing to go the extra mile in terms of effort and hours when needed
- Exceptionally well organized with meticulous attention to detail; able to manage multiple projects under pressure without letting quality slip
- Strong communication skills and professional presence with clients required; natural persuasiveness, confidence in client-facing settings, and an entrepreneurial drive toward business development are highly valued
- Genuine excitement about the opportunity to accelerate into a client-facing, revenue-producing role in one of our regional markets
The anticipated starting salary range for individuals expressing interest in this position is $80,000 to $100,000 per year. Placement within this range is dependent upon level of experience, location, and other factors. This position is eligible for annual incentive compensation, which will be part of the total compensation. Total compensation for this position will be competitive with the market.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, marital status, status as a protected veteran, or status with regard to public assistance.

Align your degree to deal work
H-1B approval for Investment Associate roles hinges on specialty occupation status. A degree in finance, economics, or accounting maps cleanly to the role. A general business degree with no quantitative focus can invite USCIS scrutiny at the petition stage.
Target Piper Sandler's sector coverage groups
Piper Sandler recruits Investment Associates into specific industry verticals like healthcare, financial institutions, and technology. Tailoring your application to a group where your prior experience aligns significantly strengthens your candidacy before sponsorship even comes up.
Raise sponsorship after receiving a verbal offer
Bringing up visa needs too early in the process can stall conversations. Once Piper Sandler signals intent to extend an offer, that's the right moment to confirm sponsorship, giving HR time to engage their immigration counsel before the written offer is drafted.
Understand the H-1B cap and your timing window
USCIS opens H-1B registration each March for an October 1 start. If you're finishing a graduate program, confirm whether your OPT covers you through the gap. A cap-gap extension may bridge the period between OPT expiration and H-1B activation.
Request the LCA job title matches your offer letter
Piper Sandler's legal team files a Labor Condition Application with DOL before your H-1B petition. The job title and duties on your LCA must match what's in your offer letter. Mismatches are a common reason for Requests for Evidence at USCIS.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Piper Sandler sponsor H-1B visas for Investment Associates?
Yes, Piper Sandler has sponsored H-1B visas for Investment Associate roles. The role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS guidelines given its degree requirements in finance, economics, or a related field. Sponsorship is not automatic with every hire, so confirming willingness with the recruiter after receiving a verbal offer is the right approach.
How do I apply for Investment Associate jobs at Piper Sandler?
Applications typically go through Piper Sandler's careers portal, where openings are listed by group and location. On-cycle recruiting for full-time Investment Associate roles often follows a structured timeline aligned with the banking recruiting calendar. Migrate Mate also aggregates Piper Sandler Investment Associate postings, letting you filter specifically for roles open to visa sponsorship candidates.
Which visa types are commonly used for Investment Associate roles at Piper Sandler?
The H-1B is the primary visa for Investment Associates at firms like Piper Sandler. Candidates on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT can work while an H-1B petition is pending. The O-1A is an option for candidates with documented exceptional achievement, though it requires substantial evidence and is less common at the associate level.
What qualifications does Piper Sandler expect for Investment Associate roles?
Investment Associates at Piper Sandler are typically expected to hold a bachelor's or master's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a closely related quantitative field. Prior experience in financial modeling, valuation, or deal execution strengthens an application. For H-1B purposes, the degree must be directly relevant to the specific duties of the role, which USCIS evaluates at the petition stage.
How do I time my job search around the H-1B filing calendar?
USCIS opens H-1B registration each March, with an October 1 start date for selected petitions. For Investment Associate roles, targeting a start date aligned with this cycle avoids gaps in work authorization. If you're on OPT, cap-gap protection under USCIS rules extends your status if your OPT expires between April 1 and October 1 while your petition is pending.
