POSITION PURPOSE
This is a mixed operational and strategic role that has evolved beyond the traditional core DBA responsibilities. In addition to owning core DBA responsibilities, the Senior DBA will help drive modernization initiatives that improve reliability, security, performance, and governance across the enterprise data platform. You will be the senior technical authority on Microsoft SQL Server — designing for scale, hardening for production, and partnering across IT to keep mission-critical systems stable and performant. This is primarily a SQL Server role. Exposure to adjacent platforms (Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB) is part of the broader modernization mission and is described below — deep, hands-on expertise in those platforms is preferred, not required, on day one. Works closely with data engineering, BI development, application teams, and IT infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Core DBA Duties
- Database installation & configuration: Deploy and configure SQL Server instances across clustered, standalone, and Azure environments.
- Performance monitoring & tuning: Monitor SQL Server health, analyze query execution plans, optimize indexes, and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks across OLTP and analytical workloads.
- T-SQL development & optimization: Write, review, and optimize complex queries, stored procedures, and scripts for performance and scalability.
- Backup & recovery management: Design and maintain backup strategies (full, differential, transaction log), perform regular restore tests, and ensure compliance with RPO/RTO targets.
- High availability & disaster recovery: Implement and maintain HA/DR solutions including Always On Availability Groups, replication, and failover clustering.
- Security & compliance: Enforce database security standards, manage roles and permissions, implement encryption (TDE, Always Encrypted), and maintain audit readiness.
- Job scheduling & automation: Manage SQL Agent jobs, resolve scheduling conflicts, and develop automation using PowerShell and T-SQL.
- Capacity, patch & upgrade management: Monitor disk and compute utilization, forecast growth, apply cumulative updates and service packs, coordinate version upgrades, and validate changes in lower environments.
- Documentation & standards: Maintain runbooks, configuration documentation, and operational standards.
- On-call support: Provide 24/7 coverage for critical production systems, responding promptly to alerts and incidents.
Strategic Modernization Leadership
- Cloud and platform modernization: Lead consolidation of legacy SQL Server instances, evaluate workloads for cloud migration (Azure SQL, Managed Instance, Synapse), and optimize licensing posture.
- Synapse and Fabric administration: Maintain Azure Synapse IAM, implement row-level security in Microsoft Fabric workspaces, and tune MPP workloads (distribution, partitioning, statistics, workload management).
- Alerting and DR standardization: Standardize alerting and paging coverage across critical pipelines, own the enterprise backup strategy, and validate DR plans through scheduled exercises.
- Governance partnership: Partner with the data governance team on Microsoft Purview cataloging, lineage, sensitivity labeling, and data dictionary initiatives.
- Standards and automation: Drive connection naming standards, infrastructure-as-code adoption for database deployments, and CI/CD pipelines for schema changes.
- Knowledge transfer and mentorship: Author DBA runbooks, enforce best practices, and lead structured knowledge-sharing sessions with data engineers and BI developers.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to perform this job.

Target technical and operations roles
Republic Airways's sponsorship activity is concentrated in specialized roles rather than general corporate positions. Focus your applications on aviation operations, engineering, and technical functions where the company's need for qualified candidates is strongest and sponsorship is more likely.
Understand the H-1B timeline before applying
Republic Airways sponsors H-1B visas, which are subject to an annual lottery in April. Apply to open roles early in the calendar year so your employer can submit a registration before the cap season closes and you have the best chance of selection.
Confirm OPT and CPT eligibility upfront
Republic Airways has sponsored F-1 OPT and CPT candidates, making it accessible for international students still on academic status. When reaching out, clearly state your current authorization type and expiration date so recruiters can assess fit before advancing your application.
Highlight aviation-relevant credentials
Regional airlines prioritize candidates whose degrees and certifications directly align with the role. Emphasize any aviation, aerospace, or engineering qualifications in your application materials, this signals to Republic Airways that sponsorship investment is justified for your specific background.
Use verified sponsorship data to target your search
Not all airline roles at Republic Airways will come with sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and focus only on roles where international candidates have a genuine shot at work authorization.
Research the TN visa if you're Canadian or Mexican
Republic Airways sponsors TN visas, which are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. If you hold citizenship from either country, TN sponsorship can be a faster and more straightforward path than H-1B, with no lottery and no annual cap.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Republic Airways sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Republic Airways sponsors H-1B visas. Sponsorship is selective and tends to be focused on specialized roles where the company cannot easily find domestic candidates. Because H-1B visas are subject to an annual cap and lottery, candidates should engage with Republic Airways well before the April registration window to ensure petitions can be filed on time.
What visa types does Republic Airways sponsor?
Republic Airways sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas. This range makes the company accessible to international students completing degrees in the U.S., as well as Canadian and Mexican professionals eligible for TN status. Sponsorship availability varies by role and department, so it's worth confirming with the recruiter early in the process.
Which departments or roles at Republic Airways are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Republic Airways is most commonly associated with technical, engineering, and aviation operations functions rather than general administrative roles. Candidates with specialized credentials in aerospace, aircraft maintenance, or related fields are better positioned to receive sponsorship consideration. Roles requiring skills that are difficult to source domestically tend to generate the strongest sponsorship support.
How do I find open jobs at Republic Airways that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most efficient way to find Republic Airways roles that come with verified sponsorship history. Rather than applying broadly and asking about sponsorship after the fact, you can filter directly for confirmed sponsors in the airline industry and surface positions where international candidates have a real path to work authorization.
How do I approach the application timeline when targeting Republic Airways for H-1B sponsorship?
The H-1B cap season opens in March with electronic registrations due before the April lottery. To give yourself the best chance, aim to secure an offer from Republic Airways by late January or February at the latest. This gives the company's HR and legal teams time to prepare the registration. Starting the interview process in the fall of the prior year is a practical approach for most candidates.
