Verify your licensure meets Massachusetts requirements
Massachusetts requires School Counselors to hold a state-issued license or certification. Before applying, confirm your credentials align with state standards, since Riverside operates under both educational and healthcare regulatory frameworks that can affect which license satisfies the role.
Target open School Counselor requisitions directly
Riverside Community Care posts School Counselor roles across multiple program sites. Apply to specific open requisitions rather than submitting a general interest form, since each posting corresponds to a distinct program with its own hiring timeline and sponsorship authorization.
Ask about visa type during the offer stage
Riverside has sponsored multiple visa categories for this role. During offer negotiations, ask HR directly which visa pathway they intend to file, since H-1B, TN, and J-1 each carry different start-date constraints and employer obligations that affect your transition planning.
Highlight behavioral health counseling experience in applications
Riverside sits at the intersection of mental health services and school-based support. Applications that demonstrate experience with at-risk youth, IEP collaboration, or community mental health settings align directly with the populations Riverside's School Counselors serve across its programs.
Use Migrate Mate to filter roles by sponsorship type

Find School Counselor at Riverside Community Care JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Riverside Community Care sponsor H-1B visas for School Counselors?
Yes, Riverside Community Care has sponsored H-1B visas for School Counselor roles. Because these positions typically require a relevant master's degree and state licensure, they generally meet USCIS specialty occupation criteria. Sponsorship availability can vary by program site and hiring timeline, so confirm directly with the HR team during the interview process.
How do I apply for School Counselor jobs at Riverside Community Care?
Applications go through Riverside Community Care's careers portal, where School Counselor positions are listed by program and location. You can also browse current openings filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to identify which specific postings align with your work authorization before you apply.
Which visa types are commonly used for School Counselor roles at Riverside Community Care?
Riverside has sponsored H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1 visas for School Counselor positions. H-1B is the most common long-term path. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying counseling roles. J-1 may apply for candidates placed through an exchange program. Your visa type will depend on nationality, degree, and program fit.
What qualifications does Riverside Community Care expect for School Counselor roles?
Riverside typically requires a master's degree in school counseling, clinical mental health counseling, or a closely related field, along with a Massachusetts school counselor license or eligibility for one. Experience supporting students with behavioral health needs, familiarity with IEP processes, and prior work in community mental health or school-based settings are strong differentiators in the hiring process.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a School Counselor role at Riverside?
Timeline depends on visa type. F-1 OPT can authorize work quickly if your EAD is already approved. H-1B cap-subject cases follow USCIS's annual cycle, with October 1 start dates and a March registration window. TN status for Canadians can sometimes be obtained at the border on the same day. Build at least three to six months of buffer into your timeline for any employer-sponsored filing.
