Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Pharmacy Intern Jobs at Safeway Jobs
Verify your ACPE-accredited program status early
Safeway's pharmacy intern positions require enrollment in an ACPE-accredited PharmD program. Confirm your school's accreditation status through ACPE's official directory before applying, since an unlisted or probationary program can disqualify your candidacy before any sponsorship conversation starts.
Target Safeway stores near your pharmacy school
Safeway schedules pharmacy interns around their pharmacy school rotations, so stores close to your campus are far more likely to offer compatible hours and faster onboarding. Search by state on Safeway's careers portal and filter specifically for intern, not technician, postings.
Clarify your OPT or CPT authorization before your interview
Safeway's HR teams process F-1 work authorization through E-Verify. Have your CPT authorization letter or OPT Employment Authorization Document ready before your first interview, as retail pharmacy hiring timelines move quickly and delays in documentation stall offer letters.
Ask directly about post-graduation H-1B sponsorship
During the offer stage, ask the hiring pharmacy manager or HR contact whether the intern role has a defined pathway to H-1B sponsorship upon PharmD completion. Safeway does sponsor H-1B petitions for pharmacy roles, but confirming this for your specific position and district eliminates ambiguity before you accept.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Safeway pharmacy intern listings
Pharmacy intern openings at Safeway are distributed across many store locations and post inconsistently. Use Migrate Mate to filter Safeway's current pharmacy intern jobs by visa sponsorship type, so you're only reviewing roles where sponsorship has been confirmed rather than assumed.
Understand how PERM timing fits your PharmD graduation
If you're targeting a Green Card through Safeway after your PharmD, PERM labor certification typically takes 12 to 18 months. Starting the sponsorship conversation with Safeway's HR team during your intern period, well before graduation, gives you the lead time needed to avoid gaps in work authorization.

Find Pharmacy Intern at Safeway JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Safeway sponsor H-1B visas for Pharmacy Interns?
Yes, Safeway sponsors H-1B visas for pharmacy roles, and pharmacy intern positions are commonly part of that pipeline. The intern role typically serves as the on-ramp to full-time pharmacist employment, which is where H-1B petitions are filed. Confirm the sponsorship pathway for your specific position and district during the offer stage, since sponsorship is administered at the regional HR level.
How do I apply for Pharmacy Intern jobs at Safeway?
Applications go through Safeway's careers portal at safeway.com/careers. Search for pharmacy intern roles filtered by your state or zip code. You'll need to submit a resume, confirm your PharmD program enrollment, and provide your state intern license number if your state requires one. Migrate Mate also lists open Safeway pharmacy intern positions filtered by visa sponsorship type, which can save you time identifying the right openings.
Which visa types does Safeway commonly use for Pharmacy Intern roles?
For currently enrolled PharmD students, F-1 CPT and F-1 OPT are the most common authorizations used during the internship itself. J-1 visa holders in qualifying exchange programs may also be eligible. After graduation and transition to a full pharmacist role, Safeway's sponsorship activity includes H-1B petitions and, for candidates pursuing permanent residence, EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories through the PERM process.
What qualifications does Safeway expect for Pharmacy Intern candidates?
Safeway requires active enrollment in an ACPE-accredited PharmD program and a valid pharmacy intern license in the state where you'll work. Most states issue intern licenses upon completing the first year of pharmacy school, but requirements vary. Practical experience with retail pharmacy workflows, patient counseling, and medication dispensing systems like QS/1 or PDX is an advantage, though not always required for first-year intern hires.
How do visa application timelines affect the Pharmacy Intern hiring process at Safeway?
If you're on F-1 CPT, your authorization must be printed on your I-20 before your start date, and Safeway processes employment through E-Verify, so the sequence matters. For H-1B sponsorship after graduation, USCIS's April 1 filing window and October 1 start date mean you need an offer in place well before your OPT expires. Building that timeline into your conversation with Safeway's HR team during the internship reduces the risk of a work authorization gap.
