Tailor your resume to insurance sales credentials
Shelter prioritizes candidates with demonstrated client acquisition or retention experience in property and casualty insurance. Highlight any state insurance licensing, even if held temporarily on OPT, as it signals you can contribute immediately without a long onboarding delay.
Pursue state insurance licensing before applying
Most Sales roles at Shelter require a Property and Casualty license issued by the state where you'll work. Completing pre-licensing coursework and passing the exam before your first interview removes a common hiring hesitation employers have with international candidates.
Target Shelter's agency and district manager openings directly
Shelter operates through a captive agent model, so Sales hiring often runs through regional district managers rather than corporate HR. Finding openings tied to specific districts increases your chances of reaching a hiring decision-maker who can champion your sponsorship case internally.
Use Migrate Mate to find Shelter Sales roles filtered by visa type
Search Shelter Insurance Companies on Migrate Mate and filter by your visa category to surface active Sales openings where sponsorship has been confirmed. This saves time compared to manually parsing general job boards that don't surface sponsorship data.
Confirm LCA filing timing with your offer contact
For H-1B transfers or new petitions, your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can process the I-129. Ask your Shelter contact early in the offer stage who manages this internally so you're not waiting on a step neither side is actively tracking.
Align your OPT end date with Shelter's hiring cycle
Shelter's Sales hiring tends to follow regional growth seasons. If your F-1 OPT authorization expires within 60 days of a target start date, discuss STEM OPT extension eligibility or H-1B cap filing timelines upfront so the offer timeline accounts for your authorization window.

Find Sales at Shelter Insurance Companies JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Shelter Insurance Companies sponsor H-1B visas for Sales roles?
Yes, Shelter Insurance Companies has sponsored H-1B visas for Sales positions. Sponsorship is not automatic for every Sales opening, so confirm sponsorship availability directly during the interview process. Roles requiring immediate client-facing work in regulated insurance lines may also require you to hold a valid state Property and Casualty license before a petition is filed.
How do I apply for Sales jobs at Shelter Insurance Companies?
Applications go through Shelter's careers portal, though many Sales openings are also managed at the district level through regional managers. Search for open Sales roles on Migrate Mate to filter by visa sponsorship eligibility before applying. Having your state insurance license or pre-licensing coursework completed before you apply strengthens your candidacy significantly.
Which visa types does Shelter Insurance Companies commonly use for Sales hires?
Shelter has sponsored H-1B visas and supported F-1 OPT and CPT placements for Sales roles. TN status is also an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying Sales occupations. The right visa type depends on your nationality, degree field, and where you are in your academic or work authorization timeline.
What qualifications does Shelter Insurance Companies expect for sponsored Sales roles?
Most Sales roles at Shelter require a bachelor's degree, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to obtain a state Property and Casualty insurance license. Prior experience in financial services, insurance, or client-facing sales is valued. For H-1B eligibility, the role must qualify as a specialty occupation, so degree relevance to the position matters during USCIS review.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship for a Shelter Sales role?
If you need an H-1B, the annual cap filing window opens in March for an October 1 start, so an offer needs to be in place before then. OPT and CPT placements can start sooner, but verify your authorization end date against the expected start date. Discuss the full timeline with your Shelter contact early, since the DOL LCA certification step alone can take one to three weeks before USCIS filing begins.
