Target research and scientific roles
Simons Foundation's sponsorship activity centers on research-intensive positions in mathematics, computational biology, and life sciences. Focus your application on roles where a specialized advanced degree is a genuine requirement, not just a preference, to strengthen your visa eligibility case.
Understand which visa types they support
Simons Foundation sponsors H-1B, J-1, TN, and F-1 OPT and CPT visas. If you're currently on OPT or CPT, apply early, research institutions often run lean HR teams and sponsorship timelines can be longer than at large tech employers.
Lead with your research credentials
Hiring managers at Simons Foundation evaluate candidates on scientific merit first. Your application materials should highlight publications, grants, or research outcomes that align with the Foundation's programs in mathematics, physics, or life sciences, not just job duties.
Apply before OPT deadlines, not after
Simons Foundation is an active H-1B sponsor, but cap-subject petitions must be filed in April. If your OPT expires before October 1, confirm whether a cap-exempt filing is possible through any affiliated university or research institution before accepting an offer.
Check for postdoctoral and fellowship pathways
Beyond permanent staff roles, Simons Foundation regularly hosts postdoctoral researchers and fellows who may enter on J-1 or F-1 status. These can serve as a bridge to an H-1B sponsorship if a longer-term role opens up within the Foundation.
Filter for verified sponsors when job searching
Not every research organization that looks like a fit actually sponsors visas. Use Migrate Mate to filter for employers with a confirmed sponsorship history so you can focus your search on organizations like Simons Foundation that have a real track record.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Simons Foundation sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Simons Foundation sponsors H-1B visas and has consistently done so across multiple years. Sponsorship is concentrated in research, scientific, and technical roles where a specialized degree in a relevant field is required. If you're targeting a position at Simons Foundation, confirm the specific role qualifies as a specialty occupation before applying.
Which visa types does Simons Foundation sponsor?
Simons Foundation sponsors H-1B, J-1, TN visa, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT visas. The J-1 category is common for postdoctoral researchers and visiting scientists. TN visa sponsorship is available for qualifying Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible research occupations. F-1 OPT and CPT support students transitioning from academic programs into research roles.
What types of roles at Simons Foundation typically receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Simons Foundation is concentrated in research-focused and highly technical positions, particularly in mathematics, computational sciences, neuroscience, and life sciences. Program officers, research scientists, data scientists, and postdoctoral fellows are among the role types that have historically received sponsorship. Administrative or operations roles are less likely to qualify for H-1B sponsorship.
How do I find open visa-sponsored jobs at Simons Foundation?
Migrate Mate is the most reliable way to find verified sponsorship-friendly openings at employers like Simons Foundation. You can filter by visa type and employer to surface roles where the organization has a confirmed sponsorship track record, saving time you'd otherwise spend guessing which positions are actually open to international applicants.
How do I time my application to Simons Foundation around visa deadlines?
Timing depends on your current status. If you need an H-1B cap-subject petition, your employer must file in April for an October 1 start date. Apply to Simons Foundation roles no later than late January to allow time for offer negotiation, LCA filing, and petition preparation. If you're on OPT with a STEM extension, you have more flexibility but should still build in at least three months of lead time.
