INTRODUCTION
Make real-time clinical decisions that change lives. Join a Convenient Care team that delivers fast, compassionate, high-quality walk-in and same-day care to the communities that need it most.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Are you a Nurse Practitioner who thrives in a fast-paced, high-impact clinical environment? Thundermist Health Center is looking for a skilled, compassionate Nurse Practitioner to join our Convenient Care team. In this role, you’ll deliver walk-in and same-day medical care to patients across our community — treating acute illness and injury, performing point-of-care testing and minor procedures, and making real-time clinical decisions as an autonomous, licensed provider. If you’re passionate about health equity, community health, and meeting patients where they are, this is the opportunity for you.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Clinical Care:
- Provide comprehensive patient care including history, physical examination, anticipatory guidance, and management of acute and chronic illness
- Evaluate and treat acute, episodic illness and injury — lacerations, fractures, sprains, infections, and more
- Perform point-of-care testing (rapid strep, flu, COVID, urinalysis, STI, and more)
- Perform wound care, suturing, splinting, and minor surgical procedures
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests (X-ray, ultrasound, labs) and initiate treatment based on results
- Prescribe medications within scope of practice
- Triage patients and determine the appropriate level of care, escalation, or transfer
- Provide discharge instructions and coordinate appropriate follow-up care
- Maintain complete and accurate patient records with same-day documentation
- Supervise and mentor nurse practitioner students as assigned
Administrative & Quality:
- Participate in peer chart review on a rotating basis
- Contribute to departmental and team meetings
- Meet patient throughput and productivity standards
- Maintain compliance with credentialing, re-credentialing, and privileging requirements
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
You bring clinical expertise, sound judgment, and genuine compassion to every patient encounter. You’re an autonomous provider who’s equally comfortable suturing a laceration, interpreting an X-ray, and connecting with a patient who just needs to be heard.
- Active Rhode Island RN and NP licensure
- ANA certification in family medicine, internal medicine, women’s health, or pediatrics
- Commitment to ongoing CEU and professional development
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills with proficiency in medical terminology
- A genuine commitment to patient-centered, high-quality care for diverse and underserved populations, with an authentic passion for health equity and community health
- Compassion, cultural humility, and a real investment in patient well-being — consistent with Thundermist’s mission
SCHEDULE & LOCATIONS
This is a part-time (20 hours/week) position. The schedule includes every other weekend and shared holiday coverage. You’ll provide care across our Woonsocket, West Warwick, and South Kingstown locations. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., and weekends 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. (including closing responsibilities).
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Onsite at Thundermist locations in an ambulatory clinical setting
- Moderate physical activity: walking, standing, stooping, and occasional lifting
- Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, respiratory disease, infectious diseases, and other biohazardous materials requiring universal standard precautions
- Manual dexterity required for medical procedures and equipment handling

Target clinical and patient-facing roles first
Thundermist Health Center's sponsorship activity is concentrated in healthcare delivery. Prioritize roles like primary care providers, behavioral health clinicians, and dental professionals, these are the positions most likely to come with visa sponsorship support.
Understand which visa types they support
Thundermist sponsors H-1B visas along with F-1 OPT and CPT, making it accessible to students and new graduates as well as experienced professionals. Knowing which category fits your situation helps you apply through the right pathway.
Highlight your licensure and clinical credentials early
Healthcare employers prioritize state licensure and clinical readiness. Make sure your resume and cover letter lead with your credentials, specializations, and any U.S.-based clinical experience, these directly influence whether Thundermist will pursue sponsorship.
Research their community health mission before applying
Thundermist serves underserved populations across Rhode Island. Candidates who demonstrate alignment with that mission, through prior community health experience or expressed commitment to health equity, stand out in a field where cultural fit matters.
Start your search on Migrate Mate to confirm current openings
Not every job listing signals sponsorship eligibility. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you find Thundermist Health Center roles where visa support is confirmed rather than assumed.
Apply early in the hiring cycle for H-1B cap-subject roles
If you need an H-1B and aren't already in status, timing matters. Thundermist would need to file your petition before the April cap deadline. Engaging with their HR team well in advance gives both sides time to prepare documentation.
