Assistant Teaching Professor and Director of Bar Success
Position Announcement
The University of Massachusetts School of Law – Dartmouth invites applications for the position of Assistant Teaching Professor and Director of Bar Success. The professor’s responsibilities will include:
- designing, implementing, and managing the Bar Success Program
- teaching bar preparation courses to upper-level students
- collaborating with the faculty and administration to develop programming that promotes first-time bar passage
- partnering with the Director of Academic Success and the Director of Teaching and Learning Methods to ensure and promote consistent academic assistance from orientation through licensure
- supervising the Assistant Director for Bar Success
- managing the program budget
- monitoring bar takers’ progress throughout the year and over the summer
- managing relationships with bar review vendors
- selecting and overseeing external tutors in the Bar Success Program
- developing and implementing a summer bar preparation program
- attending out-of-state trainings and conferences to keep current on best practices regarding bar passage, changes to the bar exam and alternative pathways to licensure
- working with the Registrar’s office and the administration to track and report on bar passage
The successful candidate will serve as Director of Bar Success and hold the rank of Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor, depending on experience. Assistant Teaching Professors are eligible for promotion to Associate and Full Teaching Professor and may earn continuous appointment. The position will begin July, 2026. This is a twelve-month position; applicants must be available to teach in the day and evening divisions as needed.
Minimum qualifications:
Applicants must have a J.D. from an ABA law school; strong academic credentials; familiarity with the Uniform Bar Exam, the NextGen Bar Exam, and other jurisdiction-specific requirements for licensure; at least two years of experience in law practice or teaching; and prior bar or academic success experience.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience with curriculum design, assessment, and data collection. The law school especially welcomes applications from candidates who bring a blend of law practice and teaching experience to their approach to classroom pedagogy and the student experience.
