Align your credentials with UIW faculty standards
UIW faculty roles typically require a terminal degree in your discipline. If your degree is from a non-U.S. institution, get a credential evaluation from NACES-approved evaluators before applying so hiring committees can assess equivalency without delays.
Target departments with recurring international hiring
UIW's colleges in health sciences, business, and liberal arts have historically brought in international educators. Research which departments advertise positions annually and prioritize those in your outreach, since departments with existing international hires are more comfortable navigating sponsorship.
Clarify sponsorship intent in your cover letter
University HR teams often flag visa complexity early in screening. Stating upfront that you're familiar with H-1B or TN requirements and that your employer's role is straightforward for a specialty occupation reduces hesitation before the interview stage.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Education roles at UIW
Browse Education positions at University of the Incarnate Word directly on Migrate Mate, which filters for verified visa-sponsoring employers. This saves time spent vetting whether a university is willing to sponsor before you invest effort in an application.
Understand UIW's LCA obligations before your offer
Once UIW files a Labor Condition Application with DOL for your H-1B, the certified wage must meet the prevailing wage for your role and San Antonio location. Review the DOL FLAG system to understand what wage level your position should fall under before negotiating your offer.
Plan your PERM timeline around academic hiring cycles
If you're targeting an EB-2 or EB-3 green card through UIW, PERM requires advertising the position to the public and can take 12 to 18 months before USCIS adjudication begins. Starting that conversation with HR during contract renewal, not at end-of-status, keeps your timeline manageable.

Find Education at University of the Incarnate Word JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of the Incarnate Word sponsor H-1B visas for Education roles?
Yes, University of the Incarnate Word sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Education positions. Faculty and professional staff roles in fields requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or higher typically meet USCIS specialty occupation standards. Sponsorship is handled through UIW's HR and legal team, so raising the conversation early in the hiring process gives the university time to prepare the petition before your start date.
How do I apply for Education jobs at University of the Incarnate Word?
Open Education positions at UIW are posted on the university's careers portal. You can also find verified visa-sponsoring Education roles at UIW through Migrate Mate, which filters listings by sponsorship type. When applying, tailor your materials to UIW's mission-driven culture and clearly indicate your work authorization status so HR can assess next steps without ambiguity.
Which visa types are commonly used for Education roles at University of the Incarnate Word?
H-1B is the most common pathway for full-time Education professionals at UIW, covering faculty, advisors, and administrative specialists. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying Education occupations. F-1 OPT and CPT are options for current international students completing degree programs, while EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based Green Cards are available for longer-term permanent sponsorship.
What qualifications are expected for Education roles at University of the Incarnate Word?
Faculty positions generally require a terminal degree such as a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in the relevant discipline. Professional Education roles in advising, student services, or curriculum may require a master's degree and field experience. If your degree is from outside the United States, a NACES-approved credential evaluation confirming equivalency to U.S. degree standards strengthens your candidacy significantly.
How do I plan my visa timeline when pursuing an Education role at UIW?
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed in April for an October start, so coordinating your offer with UIW HR at least six months in advance is essential. TN visas can be processed at the border with minimal lead time. If UIW is pursuing PERM-based Green Card sponsorship for your role, expect 12 to 18 months for the DOL process before USCIS adjudication begins.
