Build a portfolio around unstructured data systems
VAST Data's architecture centers on eliminating storage tiers and handling massive unstructured datasets. Document projects involving object storage, NVMe, or distributed file systems before applying. Generic database design experience won't differentiate you here.
Verify your OPT timeline before submitting applications
VAST sponsors F-1 OPT, but the hiring and onboarding process at a scaling tech company can take eight to twelve weeks. If you have fewer than six months of OPT remaining, raise the H-1B cap-gap or STEM extension timeline with the recruiter early.
Target roles tied to customer-facing architecture work
VAST's Data Architect openings frequently involve pre-sales and post-sales technical engagement with enterprise clients. Positions with this scope tend to move through headcount approval faster because they're tied directly to revenue, which can accelerate the offer and sponsorship decision.
Prepare your credentials for specialty occupation documentation
USCIS requires that H-1B petitions demonstrate the role qualifies as a specialty occupation. For Data Architect roles, align your degree transcripts and job description language around data engineering, systems architecture, or computer science, not general IT.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active VAST Data openings
VAST Data posts Data Architect roles across multiple locations and team charters at the same time. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for VAST Data openings that flag visa sponsorship, so you're applying to the positions most likely to move forward for international candidates.
Clarify TN eligibility if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship
VAST sponsors TN visas, which have no lottery and can be processed at the border or a port of entry. Data Architect roles can qualify under the Systems Analyst category if the job duties and your degree align, but confirm the mapping with VAST's immigration counsel before the offer stage.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does VAST Data sponsor H-1B visas for Data Architects?
Yes, VAST Data sponsors H-1B visas for Data Architect roles. Because the H-1B has an annual cap and a lottery, timing matters. Petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start date, so if you're targeting VAST, you'll want an offer secured well before the March registration window opens. VAST's immigration counsel typically manages the filing process once an offer is extended.
How do I apply for Data Architect jobs at VAST Data?
Applications go through VAST Data's careers page, but roles can be hard to filter by sponsorship eligibility. Migrate Mate aggregates VAST Data's open Data Architect positions and flags which ones are open to visa sponsorship, so you can prioritize applications where your immigration status won't be a blocker. Tailoring your resume to VAST's specific stack, including its Universal Storage platform, strengthens your application considerably.
Which visa types does VAST Data commonly use for Data Architect hires?
VAST Data sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas for technical roles including Data Architects. OPT and CPT are typically used for candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 student status. TN is available for Canadian and Mexican citizens under USMCA. H-1B is the most common long-term pathway and requires employer sponsorship through a USCIS petition.
What qualifications and experience does VAST Data look for in a Data Architect?
VAST Data's Data Architect roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, data engineering, or a closely related technical field. Hands-on experience with large-scale distributed storage, cloud-native architectures, and enterprise data infrastructure is weighted heavily. Because many roles involve direct client engagement, candidates who can bridge deep technical knowledge with business communication stand out in the hiring process.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take after an offer from VAST Data?
Timeline depends on visa type. OPT authorization is already in place, so work can begin immediately once an offer is accepted. TN processing at a port of entry can be same-day for Canadian citizens. H-1B sponsorship follows USCIS's standard timeline: registration in March, lottery results in April, petition filing by June, and an October 1 start date under the regular process. Premium processing is available and typically cuts adjudication to 15 business days.
