Align your portfolio to edge computing
Vercel's backend stack centers on edge runtimes and serverless infrastructure. Before applying, make sure your GitHub and portfolio highlight work with distributed systems, API gateways, or Node.js runtimes rather than traditional monolithic backends.
Request LCA filing early in the offer process
Your employer files the Labor Condition Application with DOL before your visa can proceed. Ask your Vercel recruiter at the offer stage to initiate LCA filing immediately. Delays here push back your start date by weeks.
Use Migrate Mate to surface Vercel backend openings
Vercel's backend roles are scattered across specializations like edge functions, build systems, and storage. Use Migrate Mate to filter Vercel openings by visa sponsorship type and backend function so you're targeting roles that fit your stack and status.
Prepare for system design rounds early
Vercel's backend interviews emphasize distributed system design and infrastructure tradeoffs, not just coding. Practice designing horizontally scalable services, caching layers, and deployment pipelines before your first technical screen.

Does Vercel sponsor H-1B visas for Backend Software Engineers?
Vercel's documented sponsorship for backend engineering roles includes E-3, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas. H-1B sponsorship is not confirmed in their recent filings for this role. If you're dependent on H-1B, clarify directly with the recruiter at the start of the process, since sponsorship decisions can vary by role and team.
How do I apply for Backend Software Engineer jobs at Vercel?
Applications go through Vercel's careers page, where backend roles are listed under Engineering. Roles are often categorized by infrastructure area, such as edge, storage, or developer experience. Tailor your resume to the specific backend domain the role targets. You can also browse current Vercel backend openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate.
Which visa types are commonly used for Backend Software Engineer roles at Vercel?
Vercel sponsors E-3 visas for Australian citizens, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and F-1 OPT and CPT for current international students. The E-3 and TN categories are attractive because they're not lottery-based and can be processed in time frames that align with typical offer-to-start schedules at tech companies.
What qualifications and experience does Vercel expect for Backend Software Engineers?
Vercel's backend roles consistently call for experience with serverless or edge computing environments, proficiency in TypeScript or Node.js, and familiarity with cloud infrastructure providers such as AWS or GCP. Roles that touch deployment infrastructure also expect experience with CI/CD pipelines. A degree in computer science or a related field supports specialty occupation classification for visa purposes.
How do I plan my timeline when targeting a Backend Software Engineer role at Vercel on a work visa?
E-3 and TN visas can move quickly, with consular processing often completing within two to four weeks of an offer. F-1 OPT transfers require your new employer to file an I-983 or equivalent and update E-Verify records before your start date. Build at least three to four weeks into your timeline between signed offer and first day to account for LCA certification and any document preparation.
