Weston is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent II to support anticipated Job Order Contracting projects for the United States Postal Service. Projects may include renovation, repair, maintenance, and facility improvement work performed in active, occupied facilities.
This position requires strong construction field leadership, effective subcontractor coordination, and the ability to manage multiple small to medium-sized construction projects in operating facilities.
Anticipated Work Locations: This position may support projects throughout the East Region, with anticipated opportunities in:
- Central and northern North Carolina, including the greater Raleigh area
- South Florida, including the greater Miami and West Palm Beach areas
- Florida’s Treasure Coast, including Port St. Lucie
- Eastern Missouri, including the greater St. Louis area
Candidates will generally be considered for opportunities within their selected geographic market. Project assignments will be based on contract requirements, candidate location, qualifications, and availability. Local or regional travel within the assigned market may be required. Specific project locations, travel expectations, and work schedules will be discussed as opportunities are confirmed.
Expected Outcomes:
- Coordinate and oversee daily onsite construction activities for assigned Job Order Contracting projects.
- Serve as Weston’s primary onsite representative and maintain regular communication with the Program Manager, Project Manager, client representatives, subcontractors, vendors, and facility personnel.
- Support the safe and efficient execution of renovation, repair, maintenance, and facility improvement projects in active, occupied environments.
- Coordinate subcontractor staffing, scheduling, sequencing, deliveries, access, and daily work activities.
- Monitor subcontractor performance, productivity, workmanship, and compliance with project requirements.
- Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, task orders, and other contract documents.
- Identify constructability concerns, field conflicts, unforeseen conditions, and potential scope changes.
- Promptly communicate field conditions and potential change-order conditions to the Project Manager.
- Assist with site walks, project planning, subcontractor scoping, constructability reviews, and preconstruction activities.
- Assist with the development of subcontractor bidder lists and the evaluation of subcontractor proposals, as requested.
- Participate in preconstruction meetings, pre-installation meetings, subcontractor coordination meetings, and client meetings.
- Develop and maintain short-term look-ahead schedules and provide field input for overall project schedules.
- Coordinate work to minimize interruptions to facility operations, employees, customers, and the public.
- Verify required labor, equipment, materials, permits, site access, and logistical support are available before work begins.
- Monitor project progress against the approved scope, schedule, and budget.
- Track daily labor, equipment, materials, deliveries, and production quantities to support accurate cost and productivity reporting.
- Prepare and maintain complete and accurate daily reports, field logs, safety documentation, photographs, inspection records, and as-built information.
- Review completed work for compliance with contract documents, quality requirements, and accepted construction practices.
- Coordinate inspections, testing, punch-list work, corrective actions, and project closeout activities.
- Support the review of subcontractor invoices, completed quantities, and payment documentation.
- Enforce applicable OSHA requirements, Weston safety policies, site-specific safety plans, and client safety requirements.
- Conduct or participate in daily safety planning, pre-task planning, job hazard analyses, toolbox talks, and site safety inspections.
- Immediately address unsafe conditions, unacceptable workmanship, schedule concerns, and other field performance issues.
- Maintain a professional, organized, and secure job site.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or Project Manager
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Experience supervising commercial construction, renovation, repair, or facility improvement projects.
- Experience supporting Job Order Contracting, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contracts, task-order construction, or similar recurring construction programs is preferred.
- Ability to coordinate multiple subcontractors, trades, vendors, deliveries, and work activities.
- Ability to manage construction activities in active, occupied, or operational facilities.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, field logistics, quality control, and schedule management.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, scopes of work, schematics, and other technical documents.
- Ability to identify field conflicts, constructability issues, unforeseen conditions, and potential changes in scope.
- Understanding of applicable construction safety requirements, hazard recognition, and safe work practices.
- Ability to verify grades and elevations using laser or similar field equipment when required by the project.
- Strong planning, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to establish priorities, respond to changing field conditions, and manage multiple tasks within schedule constraints.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate professionally with clients, facility personnel, subcontractors, vendors, project managers, inspectors, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to address subcontractor performance concerns and field conflicts professionally and effectively.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining regular communication with the project management team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Experience with construction management, scheduling, documentation, or project management software.
- Commitment to quality, safety, professionalism, and customer service.
- Ability to promote a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related discipline preferred.
- A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible commercial construction experience is preferred.
- Experience supervising renovation, repair, maintenance, or improvement work in active, occupied facilities is strongly preferred.
- Experience with Job Order Contracting, federal construction, government facilities, postal facilities, or other task-order construction programs is preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant construction experience may be considered.
Certifications and Other Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification preferred or must be obtained within the timeframe established by Weston or the applicable contract.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred or must be obtained as required by the project.
- Additional client, site-access, safety, or project-specific training may be required.
- Ability to satisfy applicable client background screening and facility-access requirements.
- Ability to travel locally or regionally based on project assignments.
- Ability to work outside normal business hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, or holidays, when required to minimize disruption to active facility operations.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Walk and stand for extended periods.
- Navigate active construction areas, stairs, ladders, uneven surfaces, and confined work areas.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, climb, reach, and perform other physical activities associated with construction-site oversight.
