Construction Superintendent Jobs in Richmond: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a construction superintendent job in Richmond?
Focus on Richmond's busiest hiring pockets: commercial general contractors working the Scott's Addition mixed-use boom, healthcare system expansions tied to VCU Health and Bon Secours, and the wave of infrastructure and transit projects moving through the city. Candidates who can show ground-up commercial experience in urban infill settings and who hold an OSHA 30 certification stand out with Richmond hiring managers above almost anything else.
Which companies hire construction superintendents in Richmond?
Richmond construction superintendent roles are posted by HITT Contracting, ColonialWebb, and LAWSON and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. The local market leans heavily toward regional general contractors and institutional owners rather than national firms, so many openings come from companies headquartered in or deeply rooted in the Richmond metro.
Are there remote construction superintendent jobs in Richmond?
Yes, but only for a narrow slice of the role. Construction superintendent work is overwhelmingly site-dependent by nature, so fully remote positions are rare. About 0% of construction superintendent openings tied to Richmond are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, typically covering pre-construction planning, scheduling, or owner-representative oversight rather than active field supervision.
How can I get a construction superintendent job in Richmond with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Richmond is through an assistant superintendent or field engineer role with a regional general contractor working commercial or multifamily projects. Employers building out Scott's Addition and the Southside redevelopment corridors regularly hire at the assistant level and promote from within. A two-year degree in construction management from a Virginia community college, combined with a summer spent as a project engineer intern, makes a candidate competitive for that first step.
