Controls Engineer Jobs in Raleigh: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a controls engineer job in Raleigh?
The strongest path into Raleigh's controls engineering market runs through its life sciences and pharmaceutical manufacturing sector, which clusters around Research Triangle Park and the Brier Creek area. Employers there consistently seek candidates with hands-on PLC programming experience, particularly in Siemens or Allen-Bradley platforms. Familiarity with FDA-regulated manufacturing environments and batch control systems gives applicants a clear edge over generalist candidates competing for the same openings.
Which companies hire controls engineers in Raleigh?
Companies currently hiring controls engineers in Raleigh include LAPORTE, Eaton, and AXON, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Raleigh's employer mix leans toward pharmaceutical manufacturers, industrial automation integrators, and utilities firms, reflecting the region's concentration of regulated production and infrastructure operations.
Are there remote controls engineer jobs in Raleigh?
Yes, though the role is largely site-dependent since controls engineers typically commission and troubleshoot physical systems on the plant floor. About 33% of controls engineer openings tied to Raleigh are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with most flexibility found in design, programming, and documentation phases rather than installation or startup work.
How can I get a controls engineer job in Raleigh with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in Raleigh is a controls technician or instrumentation technician role at one of the region's many pharmaceutical or biotech manufacturing facilities, which regularly hire associates willing to train toward engineering responsibilities. Community college programs at Wake Technical, combined with hands-on PLC coursework, make candidates competitive. Temporary project roles with automation integrators serving Research Triangle Park clients are another reliable first step.
