Job Summary
The Construction Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive project estimates that support Harmon's continued growth. This position performs quantity takeoffs, develops project budgets, coordinates subcontractor pricing, evaluates construction documents, and supports proposal development throughout the bidding process.
Working closely with the Preconstruction & Business Development Manager and Operations team, this position plays a vital role in helping Harmon secure profitable work while maintaining the company's commitment to quality, value, and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare conceptual budgets, detailed quantity takeoffs, and final project estimates.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and bid documents.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
- Develop scopes of work and bid packages.
- Identify project risks, exclusions, assumptions, and clarifications.
- Assist with value engineering recommendations.
- Maintain current labor, material, and subcontractor pricing.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and project site visits.
- Coordinate estimate reviews prior to bid submission.
- Maintain organized estimating files and historical cost data.
- Support proposal preparation and bid submissions.
- Participate in project turnover meetings following contract award.
- Develop strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and project partners.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of commercial construction estimating experience industry (commercial and/or residential)
- Strong understanding of commercial construction methods and estimating principles.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and mathematical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
