CPT Business Analyst Jobs
Business analyst roles are a natural fit for CPT because the work directly applies skills from business, information systems, finance, and management programs. Students in MBA, MIS, and quantitative business programs can qualify while still enrolled, with authorization handled by their DSO rather than USCIS. Many employers actively seek CPT business analysts for requirements gathering, process improvement, and data-driven decision support.

Get Access To All JobsBusiness Analyst CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
How does business analyst work qualify for CPT?
CPT requires that the work be an integral part of your curriculum, meaning your academic program must have a curricular component that the role directly fulfills. Business analyst positions qualify for students in programs like MBA, Management Information Systems, Business Analytics, or Finance where internship or applied project credits are built into the degree. Your DSO will confirm the connection between the job duties and your coursework before authorizing CPT.
What academic programs most commonly support CPT for business analyst roles?
MBA programs with an internship requirement, Master of Science in Business Analytics, MIS, and applied economics programs are the most common pathways. Undergraduate business and information systems programs with required co-op or practicum credits also qualify. The key is that your program must formally recognize the work as part of your curriculum, not just allow it as elective credit. Confirm with your DSO early in your program so you understand the authorization timeline.
Can I work as a business analyst on CPT while taking classes?
Yes. Part-time CPT, defined as under 20 hours per week, is the most common structure for students working during an active semester. Many employers structure business analyst CPT roles around this constraint, with full-time engagement available during summer or winter breaks. The arrangement must still satisfy your program's curricular requirement, so confirm with your DSO whether part-time hours are sufficient to receive academic credit or fulfill the practicum component.
What does an employer need to do to hire a CPT business analyst student?
Very little. The employer provides a signed offer letter specifying the role, start and end dates, hours per week, and a description of job duties. There is no USCIS filing, no employer fee, and no government processing time. The student submits the offer letter to their DSO, who issues an updated I-20 authorizing CPT. Employers experienced with internship programs generally find the process straightforward, which makes business analyst CPT roles accessible at companies of all sizes.
Where can I find business analyst roles that accept CPT students?
Migrate Mate is the most efficient starting point because the job board is built specifically for F-1 students and surfaces roles from employers familiar with CPT and OPT authorization. Filtering for CPT-eligible business analyst positions removes the manual work of researching each company's hiring policies. Many employers listing on Migrate Mate have hired F-1 students before and understand the offer letter requirement, which reduces back-and-forth with HR during the authorization process.
