INTRODUCTION
EDF internships provide high-quality experiences (including relevant projects and opportunities for networking) that form the foundation for any individual who is serious about pursuing an environmental career.
Program/Department Overview
The Planned Giving Department is responsible for growing EDF’s pipeline of future revenue by raising gifts through donors’ estate and long-term financial plans. Planned Gifts generally consist of bequests in wills and trusts, charitable gift annuities, and beneficiary designations in retirement plans or life insurance policies. The team builds relationships with prospective donors and provides them with information about which gifts would best accomplish their long-term financial and philanthropic goals. The Catalyst Circle team manages mass-market and one-to-one programs for mid-level EDF donors who annually give $5,000-plus to EDF and represent a growing and significant unrestricted revenue source for EDF. Donors in Catalyst Circle include both individual donors and foundation/institutional/organization/corporate-based donors. Stewardship Officers on the Catalyst Circle team strive to qualify each donor at the Catalyst Circle level and ensure that data and documentation in Salesforce represents donor wishes, any required reporting/proposals/applications and opportunities for revenue increase and relationship engagement and cultivation.
Overall Function
The intern will support the Catalyst Circle team through an assessment of the composition and fundraising opportunity of the institutionally oriented donors within EDF’s Catalyst Circle mid-level donor program and prospect audience—including reviews of donor profiles and giving histories, maintenance and updating of records, and more. Projects include assisting with donor trend analysis, supporting Loyal Donor Program and Legacy Match Challenge work and helping organize a training resources library. Other tasks would include preparation of estate acknowledgment letters, editing the General Support Report, performing basic database maintenance, and more. The internship will provide practical development experience, fostering skills that are highly valued by nonprofits and NGOs in any field. The intern will report to one of the two Stewardship Officers on the Catalyst Circle team with additional training and mentoring by the Manager of Donor Relations within the Planned Giving team.
Key Responsibilities
Tasks will include but are not limited to:
- Conduct analysis on estates, planned giving donors, the new Loyal Donor Program, and institutionally oriented donor portfolio (0-24 month donors).
- Send correspondence, postcards and welcome packages to planned giving donors and estate representatives.
- Research demographics of Loyal Donor group and create a summary report.

- Update records in Salesforce.
- Participate in advancing EDF’s organizational effectiveness and culture goals, so people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included and empowered to address environmental and organizational challenges in ways that align with EDF values.

Get Access To All JobsRecord To Report CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Record to Report internship qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your school's DSO determines the work is an integral part of your curriculum. Record to Report roles typically involve general ledger management, financial close cycles, and reconciliations, which align directly with accounting and finance degree programs. You'll need an offer letter describing specific duties before your DSO can authorize CPT on your I-20.
Can I do CPT for a Record to Report role part-time while taking classes?
Yes. Part-time CPT means working 20 hours or fewer per week and doesn't affect your OPT eligibility. Full-time CPT, which is more than 20 hours per week for 12 or more months, eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Most F-1 students in Record to Report roles choose part-time CPT during the academic year to protect future OPT options.
How do I find employers open to hiring F-1 CPT students for Record to Report positions?
Search Migrate Mate for employers with active LCA filing history in accounting and finance occupations. Employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications with the DOL are already familiar with work authorization processes and are more likely to have HR teams equipped to handle CPT documentation, E-Verify enrollment, and I-20 verification.
What documents does an employer need to put me on payroll under CPT?
You'll need your current I-20 with CPT authorized for the specific employer and dates, your F-1 visa stamp, your passport, and your I-94 arrival record. Employers enrolled in E-Verify will run your documents through the system. Some employers also request a letter from your DSO confirming the CPT authorization aligns with your degree requirements.
Does working in a Record to Report CPT role improve my H-1B sponsorship chances later?
CPT itself doesn't directly affect H-1B visa sponsorship, but documented Record to Report experience in U.S. financial close environments strengthens your case for specialty occupation classification when your employer later files an H-1B petition. Employers who hired you as a CPT intern already understand your work authorization history, which can simplify the H-1B process compared to starting with a new employer.
