Does a Recruitment Consultant role qualify for CPT?
It depends on your degree program. If you're studying human resources, business, organizational psychology, or a related field, a Recruitment Consultant role can qualify because the work directly applies coursework in talent acquisition and labor market analysis. Your DSO makes the final determination, so bring the job description and explain how each core duty maps to your curriculum before submitting the CPT request.
Can I work as a Recruitment Consultant on CPT at a staffing agency that places me at client sites?
Yes, but your CPT authorization must name the staffing agency as your employer, not the client site. If the agency places you at multiple client locations, confirm the agency itself is E-Verify enrolled and that your I-20 reflects their address. Some DSOs require a letter from both the agency and the client site explaining the arrangement before they'll approve.
How do I find Recruitment Consultant employers who are familiar with F-1 CPT?
Search Migrate Mate to browse employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications, which signals they already understand work authorization requirements. Staffing and HR firms that have sponsored international employees before are far less likely to rescind offers over CPT paperwork. You can also check the O*NET occupation profile for the role's standard industry classifications to target your search.
Does full-time CPT for a Recruitment Consultant role affect my OPT eligibility?
Yes. If you accumulate 12 months or more of full-time CPT, you lose your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours per week or fewer, doesn't count against OPT regardless of duration. If you're weighing a full-time Recruitment Consultant CPT placement against preserving post-graduation OPT, discuss the tradeoff with your DSO before accepting.
What should a Recruitment Consultant offer letter include to satisfy CPT authorization requirements?
Your DSO needs the employer's legal name and address, your job title, a description of duties that connects to your curriculum, your hourly or weekly schedule, and the exact start and end dates of the placement. Many offer letters for staffing roles are intentionally open-ended on dates, so ask the hiring manager to commit to specific dates in writing before you submit the letter to your international student office.
