Get Access To All JobsSenior Fullstack Developer CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Fullstack Developer role qualify for CPT?
Yes, if your academic program includes coursework in software engineering, web development, databases, or systems architecture and your school determines the work is an integral part of your curriculum. Your DSO makes the final call. Bring a detailed job description and a written offer letter to your CPT authorization meeting so they can map the role's duties to your specific degree requirements.
Can I do CPT for a fully remote Senior Fullstack Developer position?
CPT authorization is tied to your school's academic program, not the physical location of the work. A remote role is eligible as long as your DSO confirms it meets the integral curriculum requirement. Your I-20 will reflect the employer's address, so make sure the offer letter lists a specific company location even if you're working remotely from your school's city.
How do I find Senior Fullstack Developer employers who are familiar with CPT?
Search Migrate Mate for Senior Fullstack Developer roles and filter by companies with documented H-1B or LCA filing history. Employers who have sponsored technical workers before understand work authorization timelines and are less likely to rescind an offer when you explain CPT authorization adds one to two weeks before your start date.
What happens to my CPT authorization if the employer changes my job title mid-internship?
A material change in your role, including a title change that shifts your core duties, may require a new CPT authorization from your DSO. Notify your DSO immediately if your employer reclassifies your position during the authorized period. Continuing to work under a changed role without updated CPT authorization puts your F-1 status at risk, regardless of how minor the title change appears.
Does full-time CPT affect my OPT eligibility after graduation?
Yes. Twelve months or more of full-time CPT eliminates your post-completion OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, which is 20 hours per week or fewer, does not count against your OPT. If you're weighing a full-time Senior Fullstack Developer CPT role against a part-time arrangement, check exactly how many months of full-time CPT you've already used before accepting, and confirm the count with your DSO.
