CPT Tax Expert Jobs
Tax Expert CPT positions let F-1 students apply coursework in taxation, auditing, and compliance to real client engagements. Your DSO must authorize CPT before your start date, and the role must connect directly to your degree program. Accounting and finance programs often have structured CPT partnerships with CPA firms and corporate tax departments.

Does a Tax Expert role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the position involves duties directly tied to your degree program in accounting, taxation, or finance. Your DSO will evaluate whether tax research, compliance work, client advisory, or return preparation connects to your enrolled coursework. Roles that blend general administrative tasks with tax work may require a more detailed job description to satisfy the integral curriculum requirement.
Can I do CPT at a CPA firm and a corporate tax department in the same semester?
Only if your school authorizes each employer separately on your I-20. CPT is employer-specific, meaning each placement requires its own DSO endorsement. Working at two sites simultaneously under a single CPT authorization is a status violation. Confirm with your DSO whether your program permits concurrent placements before accepting overlapping offers.
How do I find Tax Expert CPT positions that are open to F-1 students?
Migrate Mate lists Tax Expert roles filtered by employers with documented work authorization history, so you're not cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with CPT. Look for postings that explicitly mention F-1 or CPT eligibility, and prioritize employers in public accounting or corporate tax departments where CPT placements are structurally common.
Does full-time CPT as a Tax Expert affect my OPT eligibility?
Yes. Twelve months or more of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours or fewer per week, does not count against your OPT. If you're weighing a full-time Tax Expert CPT placement against preserving 12 months of post-graduation OPT, discuss the tradeoff with your DSO before authorizing full-time status.
What should a Tax Expert CPT offer letter include to satisfy DSO requirements?
Your DSO needs documentation that the role is integral to your curriculum, not just employment in the finance sector. The offer letter should specify tax-related duties such as federal or state return preparation, tax research, compliance review, or audit support. It should also include your start and end dates, hours per week, and the employer's official name and address matching their E-Verify or DOL records.
