INTRODUCTION
Discord is used by over 200 million people every month for many different reasons, but there’s one thing that nearly everyone does on our platform: play video games. Over 90% of our users play games, spending a combined 1.5 billion hours playing thousands of unique titles on Discord each month. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming. We are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to talk and hang out before, during, and after playing games. We’re looking for a Senior Tax Analyst to join Discord’s global tax team and play a hands-on role in shaping our tax function as we scale. You’ll own work across corporate income tax, indirect tax, tax provisions, and global operations—partnering directly with Finance, Engineering, Legal, and external advisors. This is a high-visibility role where your contributions will directly influence how Discord navigates complex, multi-jurisdictional tax challenges during a period of rapid global growth. You’ll tackle novel tax questions that come with building a platform used by over 200 million people worldwide—from digital services taxes to multi-entity structuring—and have real ownership over the solutions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and intellectually curious, with a strong foundation in domestic and global indirect taxation and a desire to contribute to a high-impact tax function.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
What You'll Be Doing
- Manage indirect tax compliance end-to-end—prepare, analyze, and monitor Sales and Use tax, VAT/GST, and other obligations across multiple jurisdictions, coordinating with external advisors to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare and review U.S. federal, state, and international corporate income tax returns, and own the quarterly and annual ASC 740 income tax provision process including supporting schedules and documentation.
- Drive international tax workstreams including transfer pricing documentation, intercompany transactions, cross-border compliance, and tax analysis related to global expansion and new product launches.
- Manage responses to tax authority notices and audits, and research tax incentives, credits, and legislative developments that impact the company.
- Prepare month-end and quarter-end close workpapers, reconciliations, and journal entries, including tax reporting and analysis for equity award programs.
- Serve as the go-to technical resource for the company’s tax technology platforms—administer systems, drive implementation of new tools, and optimize existing compliance software.
- Identify and execute opportunities to improve tax processes, documentation, internal controls, and automation across the function, and assist with ad-hoc and special tax projects as needed.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3–6 years of corporate tax experience, preferably in a public accounting firm or technology company
- Strong understanding of U.S. Sales and Use Tax, Global VAT/GST, and U.S. federal and state corporate income taxation
- Hands-on experience with ASC 740 income tax provisions
- Strong analytical skills with a track record of identifying issues, researching tax authority guidance, and driving to resolution
- Effective communicator who can manage competing priorities and collaborate across Finance, Legal, and Engineering teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- CPA or Master’s in Taxation (MST)
- Experience with technology or high-growth companies
- Working knowledge of international tax concepts including transfer pricing, Pillar Two/GloBE rules, and cross-border compliance
- Hands-on experience with tax technology platforms (e.g., Avalara, Vertex, OneSource, Alteryx, or similar)
LOCATION
Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties). Relocation assistance may be available.

Get Access To All JobsTax Analyst CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Tax Analyst internship qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the position is directly tied to your degree program and your school approves it before your start date. Tax Analyst roles typically qualify for accounting, finance, or business students because the work involves applying coursework in areas like tax law, financial reporting, or compliance. Your DSO makes the final determination based on your specific program requirements and how the employer describes the role.
Can I do CPT as a Tax Analyst at a company that doesn't yet sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes. CPT doesn't require the employer to file anything with USCIS, so H-1B visa sponsorship history is irrelevant for CPT eligibility. The employer simply needs to provide a written offer letter describing the role and dates. That said, if you're planning for post-graduation status, it's worth identifying whether the firm has ever filed H-1B petitions. You can browse employer filing history on Migrate Mate.
How does part-time versus full-time CPT affect my OPT eligibility as a Tax Analyst?
Part-time CPT, defined as fewer than 20 hours per week, has no impact on your OPT eligibility regardless of how many semesters you use it. Full-time CPT totaling 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Many Tax Analyst CPT students choose part-time arrangements during the academic year specifically to preserve their full 12 months of OPT after graduation.
What documentation does a Tax Analyst CPT employer typically need to provide?
The employer needs to give you a signed offer letter that includes your job title, start and end dates, work location, and a brief description of duties. Some schools also require the employer to confirm the position is paid and describe how the work relates to your field of study. Your DSO may have a template the employer can complete. No government agency filing is required from the employer for CPT.
Which Tax Analyst specializations are most common for CPT placements?
Corporate tax compliance, international tax, and indirect tax are the three areas where CPT placements appear most frequently, particularly at accounting firms and large multinationals. Transfer pricing is also increasingly common for students in finance or economics programs. O*NET classifies Tax Analyst roles under Business and Financial Operations, which most graduate business programs can directly link to required coursework for CPT approval purposes.
