CPT Health Actuary Jobs
Health Actuary roles in insurance, benefits consulting, and managed care organizations are well-suited for CPT because the work directly applies actuarial science coursework. Your DSO must authorize CPT before you start, and the position must be integral to your degree program, not just tangentially related.

Do Health Actuary internships qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the position is an integral part of your actuarial science or related degree program and your school's DSO approves it before you start. The employer's job description must reflect duties tied to your coursework, such as pricing models, loss reserving, or risk analysis. A general finance or data internship designation won't satisfy CPT's curriculum integration requirement even at an insurance company.
Which employers typically hire F-1 students for actuarial CPT roles?
Health insurers, actuarial consulting firms, managed care organizations, and large employee benefits companies are the most common CPT employers for actuarial students. You can search Migrate Mate to find employers with verified labor condition application histories in actuarial and risk management roles, which signals familiarity with F-1 work authorization requirements.
Does completing a full-time CPT health actuary rotation affect my OPT?
Yes. Any full-time CPT lasting 12 months or more cumulatively eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely, regardless of whether the CPT occurred in one placement or multiple rotations. Part-time CPT, defined as fewer than 20 hours per week, does not count against OPT. Plan your rotation schedule with your DSO before accepting a full-time offer to avoid permanently losing post-graduation work authorization.
What SOC code applies to Health Actuary CPT positions?
Most health actuary roles fall under SOC code 15-2011 (Actuaries). Some employers may classify roles under related data or risk analyst codes depending on the specific duties. Check the O*NET occupation profile for the actuarial category to confirm the standard duties align with your offer letter, and use the OFLC Wage Search to verify the prevailing wage for your work location and experience level.
Can I extend CPT if my health actuary employer offers a longer placement?
CPT extensions require a new DSO authorization and must continue to satisfy the curriculum integration requirement each semester. Your school may have enrollment requirements, such as continuing to register for a practicum or co-op course, to maintain CPT eligibility across multiple terms. Confirm your school's specific policy before committing to a multi-semester placement, since not all programs authorize ongoing full-time CPT past the first authorization period.
