Cybersecurity Jobs in Charlotte: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a cybersecurity job in Charlotte?
The clearest path into Charlotte's cybersecurity market runs through its financial services sector, which anchors the city's economy and drives consistent demand for security professionals. Banks, credit unions, and fintech firms in Uptown and Ballantyne hire frequently, as do hospital networks like Atrium Health and defense contractors along the I-485 corridor. Candidates with cloud security experience, security clearances, or familiarity with financial compliance frameworks tend to stand out in Charlotte's competitive applicant pool.
Which companies hire cybersecuritys in Charlotte?
Companies currently hiring cybersecuritys in Charlotte include PwC, AT&T, and Xylem, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Charlotte's mix of major bank headquarters, regional health systems, and government-adjacent contractors creates a broad and consistent base of cybersecurity employers across the metro area.
Are there remote cybersecurity jobs in Charlotte?
Yes, though availability depends on the role type: analytical and cloud-focused positions tend to go remote more readily than hands-on infrastructure or on-site SOC roles. About 77% of cybersecurity openings tied to Charlotte are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with financial services firms and technology companies leading the way on flexible arrangements. Incident response and physical security roles remain predominantly on-site.
How can I get a cybersecurity job in Charlotte with little or no experience?
Starting in IT support or systems administration at one of Charlotte's many financial institutions or hospital networks is the most realistic local entry path, since those employers regularly move proven internal candidates into security roles. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Central Piedmont Community College both run cybersecurity programs that connect students with Charlotte-area employers through internships. Earning a CompTIA Security+ certification before applying measurably improves your candidacy at the entry level in this market.
