INTRODUCTION
Google isn't just a software company. The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As a Hardware Operations Manager, you will manage a team of Data Center Technicians. You will oversee the quality installation of server hardware and components and take charge of complicated installations/troubleshooting. Your team will install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (like servers and its components) and server software (like Google's Linux cluster). They will also take on the configuration of more complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches and networking protocols. They may lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans. Google's groundbreaking search technology relies on a cutting-edge infrastructure, and the Server Operations team ensures it all runs smoothly.
As a Server Operations Manager, you'll lead a team of skilled Data Center Technicians who are the backbone of this operation. You'll guide the team in the installation and maintenance of server hardware, networking equipment, and their components, all while troubleshooting challenges head-on. The team will be skilled in configuring and maintaining not just servers, but the entire network ecosystem – routers, switches, and the protocols that connect them all. You'll assist and ensure complex projects are navigated by removing road blocks and developing plans to keep things running efficiently. In this role, you'll be key to the success of the data center, proactively monitoring performance, anticipating potential issues, and collaborating closely with the area lead, site manager, peer OMs, and partnering teams like DCOps, Security, and GSO-L to ensure optimal operational efficiency.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
SALARY
US: $138000 - $201000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in computing infrastructure, networking, operating systems, or hardware.
- 5 years of experience managing technical, vendor, contract management, or delivery teams.
- Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, night shifts, holidays and on shift-based schedules as required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience managing technical teams, vendor or contract management and service delivery.
- Experience working in data center environments, including building and operating large-scale infrastructure, network and compute architecture and lifecycle, and Linux/Unix system administration.
- Experience with initiating and executing strategic initiatives in a global environment.
- Track record of leading and improving Environmental Health and Safety initiatives.
- Demonstrated strong performance and experience with data gathering, analysis and presentation skills.
