Ardurra is seeking a Data Analyst to join our Public Works team in Houston, TX!
Ardurra is a multidisciplinary civil engineering services firm providing innovative infrastructure solutions to public and private sector clients throughout the United States. We leverage our technical expertise, integrated project delivery, and local market knowledge to deliver practical, sustainable solutions for public infrastructure, utilities, transportation, drainage, and community development projects.
Our Houston Public Works Infrastructure team partners with municipalities, local governments, utility providers, and public agencies to plan, evaluate, and improve critical infrastructure systems. We support projects involving utility master planning, capital improvement programs, infrastructure resiliency, system capacity evaluations, drainage and utility assessments, and long-range infrastructure planning.
Primary Function
The Data Analyst (Level I or II) will support water and wastewater infrastructure projects through the application of engineering principles, data analytics, and visualization techniques. This role will support hydraulic modeling efforts, develop dashboards and analytical tools, automate workflows, and transform complex infrastructure data into actionable insights for engineers, project managers, and utility clients.
The ideal candidate will possess an engineering background combined with strong analytical and programming skills, a passion for learning, and an interest in applying data science techniques to municipal infrastructure challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and data visualization tools for infrastructure and utility projects.
- Analyze engineering datasets and identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for operational improvements.
- Support hydraulic modeling and system analysis efforts for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Assist with model calibration and interpretation of hydraulic modeling results.
- Utilize Python, SQL, and other analytical tools to automate workflows and process large datasets.
- Work with GIS, SCADA, and other infrastructure datasets.
- Support capital improvement planning, asset management, and infrastructure resiliency initiatives.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and technical staff to communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Continuously learn and apply emerging technologies and data science methodologies to engineering challenges.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited university, or an equivalent quantitative, data science, or computer science background with relevant infrastructure experience.
- Minimum of 1 year (Level I) or 3 years (Level II) of experience in engineering, analytics, or infrastructure-related data analysis.
- Demonstrated understanding of data science concepts, statistical methods, or analytical programming through education or professional experience.
- Experience utilizing Python and/or SQL for data analysis and automation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- An experienced AI worker with strong judgment about when and which AI tools are appropriate, and a track record of integrating them effectively and responsibly into technical work.
- Working understanding of machine learning concepts and methods, and how they apply to data analysis problems.
Preferred
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Master's degree in Data Science, Engineering, Water Resources, or related field.
- Experience with water/wastewater hydraulic modeling.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar visualization platforms.
- Experience with GIS platforms and geospatial data.
- Experience with SCADA data, operational data, or utility system datasets preferred.
- Familiarity with AI tools and Large Language Models.
- Understanding of how machine learning applies in a water or wastewater context (e.g., demand forecasting, anomaly detection, asset condition prediction).
- Experience within municipal infrastructure, public works, or water/wastewater environments.
- Strong desire to learn, grow, and develop new technical skills.
- Data engineering, automation, cloud infrastructure, database engineering, analytics, or machine learning certificates from online learning platforms such as Coursera, Codecademy, or Udemy.
